Been reading on another forum a post on if Khan should go for beating Hamed's record or concentrate on fighting for a world title when his ready. I think Khan should forget about the record it will not further his career at all in the long run. Original post here: There has been a lot of talk about whether Amir Khan can beat Naseem Hamed’s record for youngest Britain to win a boxing world championship. Now when Hamed won the WBO featherweight world title in 1995 by beating Steve Robinson the WBO title was not as highly regarded as it is now. It could be argued that the title then had no more significance then todays lightly regarded WBU, IBO, and WBF titles? Not many people would bet against Amir Khan easily taking one of those titles at Lightweight right now, so perhaps Amir should forget about beating that record and concentrate on having a long and prosperous career? Or if he really wants to beat the record then go fight for the WBU, IBO or WBF title in his next fight, and then go for a more meaningful strap.
I've never understood Khan's obsession with this record. He should forget about Naz and concentrate on learning his craft at his own pace, he's only 21 FFS.
Who was the youngest legitimate British world champion (WBC, WBA, IBF)? He probably has a bit longer than we think.
So Khan's best bet would be to wait until just before he's 22, win a real title and call himself the youngest British world champion. Especially as in this case the WBO champion actually has the IBF and WBA.
