I think Golden Boy will cash him out v Ortiz. Personally would like to see him switch trainers, someone who can give him 100% time. Not just an American name. Dip his toe into the Welterweight scene against Matthew Hatton and take it from there. I think its one fight at a time from here. That said would love to see him fight Bradley. Still think if there is such a thing as a smart fighting Khan he UD's Bradley.
I agree with you. And would love to have seen him shut up Garcia's dad. But a part of me is worried that Khan will never learn how to box clever if he hasn't already. He made a promise to knock this guy out and look what happened. And old shot overweight morales gave this guy a better fight and even mocked Garcia in the ring for his telegraphed winging hooks - Khan would never be able to do that because he only fights one way - he's not a smart fighter just a very brave one with a suspect chin. If he carry's on, I do fear he could get permamnently damaged and won't be healthy enough to live a happy life with his wife even if he has millions - it's no substitute for a healthy life - let me tell you - he doesn't want to be cabage by the age of 30 - but that's what will happen if he continues to be in wars and gets KO'd heavily again - mix that in with his willingness to carry on while not in his senses he could be put to sleep for good.
No doubt. That's why he needs someone like Steward in his camp. He has hard nose no nonsense style. I'm just even more pissed that a c*nt like Garcias dad got his way. The mans a bum. The entire event was all about him and his big mouth.
This guy is going to end up permanently damaged if he fights much longer, he has been eating some horrendous shots in his last group of fights. If i was him I'd seriously consider if i want to continue, his punch resistance is only going to get worse.
I feel another heavy deafeat and he should call it quits. But 2 in 4 years as a young man isnt the end of the world.
Steward would be able to break him down and educate him to fight a particular way. I'm not convinced that Roach is right for him. There's too much going on in the Pac circus for him to put enough effort into Khan and his development needs.
Do you seriously think Khan is going to learn anything from Steward or even take on and implement anything they would do in training? I seriously doubt it. Angel Garcia is a **** but he was right about Khans DNA being ****ed up. His DNA is to fight when hurt and do that in-out style that Garcias dad mocked (kangaroo). I don't think any trainer is going to change Khan. Only Khan can change Khan - he needs to be smarter. In this fight he was eventually going to get caught because he is always doing the same things, he gets easier to time especially for guys who are trying to punch with him. Maliggnaggi summed it up best. What really needs to happen is Khan needs a brain transplant - so he gets more ring IQ - because only that can save him. He needs to disrupt the others guys timing by making his own adjutments. But Khan can't stick to a gameplan let alone think of making adjustments to one midfight. He has had a good run to get to where he was with his skillset and the prescott defeat - he was just one fight away from facing the greatest boxer of his generation - His regret after this humbling defeat will be immense. That's why he should either rematch and go for a win to get back to where he was or then just make money fighting domestic b level guys like Brook
Steward is a guy who sticks to boxing fundamentals. Right now Khan isn't developing under Roach. Nothing is changing. His biggest flaws aren't his talent. Nor even his chin. But his boxing IQ. Thats positively something you can learn. If he can't learn it from a guy like Steward who has a boxing brains in abundance he may as well call it a day. And he can't go back to domestic level. That would be stupid. Khan is a PPV fighter now and legitimately world class despite his glaring flaws. That said a rematch should be his first priority.
Straight after the fight I thought he should call it a day. However, on reflection, he should probably do the following (in my opinion): 1. Take an extended break from boxing. A good few months away from the sport to re-charge the batteries. 2. Change trainers. He needs someone who is going to give him his full attention. He's going backwards at the minute. A new, committed team around him, can only help. 3. There are still plenty of good fights out there for him. Malignaggi re-match up at welterweight. Kell Brook in a big UK fight, Tim Bradley in the states. 4. Stop over-looking opponents and concentrate on the here and now. He's lost two in a row and in the build up to both fights, there's been constant talk of Mayweather, Bradley etc. This could be the wake up call that he needs, similar to the Prescott loss.
I agree. He needs to ditch that idea that he needs to come out trying to bomb his opponent out like a Thomas Hearns. When I saw him throwing the kitchen sink at Garcia I worried for him; he recklessly leaves so many openings that he was bound to get caught with something. I am not a fan of Amir Khan but he has great handspeed and if he went back to school and focused on using an educated jab and taking his time he could get back on top. He still has a good career ahead of him but he needs to work on his weaknesses. :bbb
no, after the prescott loss there was no "wake up call" they just put him in there with 5 fighters in a row that couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding they need to do that again.
I agree with points 1 & 3. point 2 - don't think any trainer in the world can make Khan smarter in the ring. just not happening. But I agree Roach is actually detremental to Khan. Not only did Ariza leave him because he was in philipines, but why dhould he play 2nd fiddle to pacquiao - it's not like he's sparring pacquiao. Yes, Pacman is number 1 guy at wildcard - but Amir is his own man ans he pays his own bills - not pacquiao. Roach should give Khan 100% committment or else he needs to get a new coach for that reason alone. Best thing about wildcard is the sparring available there. Point 4 - I sympothise with Khan here. I truly beleive he was not overlooking Garcia for Mayweather. I heard him several times in the buildup just say we need to look at Garcia first etc. It's not his fault his name keep getting mentioned ans he is asked questions. Al Haymon might have set him up with that meeting two days before the fight though. Even Garcia was asked about fighting Mayweather before this fight to which he just said he doesn't see that happening yet. Khan most of the time is just responding to questions, in the Peterson fight he was guilty of overlooking Peterson, in this one I think he tried best he could to concentrate on Garcia.
I don't know what it is about Khan, but when he gets hurt it really frazzles his brain, his legs go, he looks so vulnerable and the potential for him being seriously injured seems to exist for Khan more so than most fighters. On that basis alone, If these kind of moment become a consistent thing, I think he should consider retirement. He's achieved a lot, after all and can look back and be relatively happy with his career. Maybe another fight or two, so how they go, but definitely have retirement as an option in the back of his mind.
This. The last two fights have been about reaching Mayweather. It's ridiculous. These guys who he's fighting recently are high quality guys, the idea that he can look past them to bigger and better things is just bizzare.
