Boxing IQ can only be developed if the person is capable of learning. I don't think Khan is capable of doing that. The mistakes he learned from his early amateur days are still with him right now, despite working with some top quality trainers. He was in the British amateur team, he worked with Oliver Harrison and then Freddie Roach. He's been around Joe Gallagher for a long time now and he's still not improving his boxing IQ. These are good trainers but not only that, he's around some of the best fighters in the world. If Khan still hasn't picked it up, there is no hope for him. He lacks the required intelligence to learn and I'm not talking about boxing IQ either.
I see what you're saying but Khan's situation is a little different because this is now his second defeat in a row to a good, but not great fighter. There are again question marks regarding his chin. Is Garcia a huge puncher? Does Khan not have enough weight on his legs? Or has his punch resistance (never great to begin with) permanently been damaged? Where does Khan go from here? Fighting British and European level fighters would be a step backwards, and it's not like he needs the money anyway. He's set for life. Yet, he can't move forwards either because of these two losses he's just had. Has he reached his level? If so then is it worth rebuilding his career with some wins over some lower quality opponents only for him to get knocked out again when he faces someone half decent? I found Scurla's post interesting. This is the worry with Khan. He really seems to get hurt, and not just knocked down. Compared to say Marquez who's been knocked down plenty of times but gets up and carries on as if nothing happened, and has never been stopped. The way his body reacts, his facal expressions etc when he gets hit is not a nice thing to see. I'm not saying he should retire, but if I was part of his family I would probably try to get him to do just that.
Erm that's not what i said. READ my post in the context of what i said rather than extrapolating your own interpretation of what i 'apparently' said. I'm referring to Khans reaction(s) when hit/hurt. I'm not claiming to have insight into any current condition he may or may not have nor did i imply that. His reaction is a POSITIVE indicator of brain trauma. When you react like that IE go limp when hit, have the involuntary spasms be it leg face or arms, is a CLEAR indicator of brain trauma/damage.
Khan is still young. He has time. I really hope he does learn as i admire the kids heart. He has the stones in spades. But he needs a coach that can focus on him. Not the circus that comes with Pac-Man.
Lots calling for Manny Steward which is understandable but what about someone like Booth? He might be a smug *****, but he tells his fighters what's what. There's no back slapping from him. It might be te sort of gut check Khan requires.
A ****ing hate Adam Booth. I just can't stand all his scientific crap. He's made to look better than he is because he has David. Same as that delinquent Sardinian Enzo Calzaghe was made to look good when his stable was winning World Title belts. Bottom line is Khan needs a new trainer. I hope he recognises this and does something about it.
why does malignaggi deserve a rematch with khan or hatton? he took a humiliating pounding from both men and would do so again..oh yeah..he has a "belt"
Danny Garcia is a good fighter and I do not think we have seen the best of him yet so Khan should not retire he should suck it up get back in to training and learn to let his fighting do the talking rather than his mouth he could fight Brook in a big domestic showcase, he could maybe fight Paulie there is oppourtinties losing fights does not make you a loser, the way you lose fights and fight through the demons is what makes you a champion
You're supposed to learn from your defeats so let's see if he does this time. It's not as if he's shot. Can a comparison be made between Khan and Frank Bruno's career? Should Bruno have retired after his first fight with Mike Tyson (his third knockout defeat plus being out on his feet against Jumbo Cummings)? Admittedly Khan seems to end up in wars almost every fight but I feel he's too young to retire yet and could still achieve something.
Froch has had his say, over at the Scene. I'm off for my dinner, if someone could post it up that be great. Basically says he'd retire if it was him.
Froch was on talksport today http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/boxing/120715/exclusive-%E2%80%93-froch-if-i-was-khan-i-would-retire-176674
It's a bit uncalled for from Froch, but Khan has never been shy of talking smack about Carl, and with the Hearn connection now a little dig was inevitable. At the end of the day, Froch has earned the right to an opinion, as one of the best fighters in the sport. Plus, at least he puts his point across in an articulate manner, there's a logic to what he says. It's not as if he calls someone a fraud or does it on Twitter using text speak. On the positive side too he doesn't bang on about not wanting other people to earn money like Khan does. ''You'll never earn as much as me'' and all that bollocks.
