GJ: Beat Tarver, beat a still service-able RJJ (a better version of Roy than Hopkins beat in the rematch), gave Dawson hell in the first fight, beat an underrated fighter in Harding, and has questionable losses to quality opponents like Clinton Woods, Shieka, and Ottke. Pascal: Beat both Bute and Dawson, again better than anything Kovalev has done. Dawson: Beat Tarver X2, Johnson X2, has a legit win over Hopkins. Again, better than anything on Kovalev's resume. I'm not hating on Kovalev, he is just not as proven at LHW as the other fighters mentioned.
stop looking at what people have done and look at what people are doing, then you might appreciate boxing more. pascal, dawson and tarver are not better than kovalev, and even if you think they are better they are not nearly as dangerous. kovalev stops people with bodyshots, scuffed punches. floors them with jabs. and its not like he even headhunts with 1 punch like stevenson, he just dismantles them with hard shots from body to head. :nut
Kovalev on paper and from the fights of his that I've watched is definitely his most dangerous opponent and probably the second best after Jones.
The question is does Sirgay get any credit for fighting a FIFTY YEAR OLD man? I think not. The division is sooooo bad, fighting a grandpa is a the best fight for the chumps there.
easily rjj, with dawson trailing a long way behind in 2nd place. As things stand, both prime dwason and rjj would take handle kovalev, though it would be a ferociously difficult fight for them.
I wouldnt say best opponent but due to the weight you could say his hardest fight. Kovalev has devastating power at 175.
