Not exactly in response, but that other one gave me the idea of this poll, yeah. Interesting to see that Merchant gets the respect I thought he should get from other ESB posters as well.
At times I find him (Larry Merchant) annoying but he's been around forever, is a well spoken man & he seems pretty smart regarding boxing. Max kellerman also seems smart & well spoken & he is also annoying by being overly dramatic at times. Al Bernstein is the heavyweight champion of commentators.
its time for him to hang it up.. its annoying when he just starts rambling. One minute hes talking about a punch that landed then all of a sudden hes talking about the weather.. Bring Max
yes he's better then someone like kellerman i'd prefer burt sugar though, never understand how he wasn't an analyst or commantator in a merchant type role
i don't know, bert is INCREDIBLY biased and as good as he is, seldom presents an objective opinion. and **** him, he HATES chuvalo
I like him I dont really care if hes drunk just makes it funnier, he still manages to talk some sense desite being pissed off his head
Larry's just kinda old-fashioned and slow and his commentary is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned. His observations are nothing remarkable, and I can think of several occasions where he's said "he appears to be losing some of his power" a split second before a knockdown. Which...I guess can be kinda funny, haha. The only thing I really hate is the condescending tone he takes with the guys post-fight; it's almost embarrassing to watch. Overanxious schoolboy Kellerman can suck it! Ever hear the expression "those who can't do, teach"? Yeeeeeah. Best commentators to me are the ones who used to be fighters-- I loved Foreman's commentary the most!
