Lewis did not right the judges wrong in the second Holyfield fight. You have to look pretty hard to call it anything but a draw.
Not a chance. I rate Lewis very highly but there's no way anyone could seriously rate him over Ali. You could argue he's better H2H I suppose. You'd be wrong but you could at least argue it with a straight face.
It's tough to rate any heavyweight over Ali in terms of worldwide recognition, aura and global media presence. It's a pretty unfair comparison.
It depends how you decide to compile a ATG list, and whether you are basing it on head to head, or how good they were for their time. Ali is better for his time, but lewis may actually beat him if they could actually fight when both prime. Jack Johnson is an ATG but if he was around today the same as he was in 1908, he'd be ****, and wouldn't even make it in the amateur ranks. Boxing has moved on since ali's day, so its hard to compare
So how about rating them on talent and achievements? Any way you choose to rate Heavyweights, Ali comes out in top.
Interesting read. Obviously Ali did not end up on the throne without reasons. But to be honest I rate Lewis win over Vitali higher then Alis win over Frazier. Vitali was bigger, stronger, had two eyes and moved on to become one of the dominating champs in the new era. While Frazier was never more then a contender during his. Lewis win over Tyson was obviously tainted. But Tyson was still able to take the fight to Lewis in spurts, so he was not only a shell. And there was controversy in some of Alis wins as well.
Surely your heroes status as a demigod is so evident that any kind of debate is pure madness. Thankfully I used Lewis as a comparasion rather then Wlad, so these kind of emotional responses are fairly rare in the thread. But I guess Lewis beeing European still is too much for some.
People won't accept a european can be better than some great americans, can you imagine an american being as dominant as wlad or vitali and people saying he is not even a top 20 atg?
Did Lewis beat Foreman,Liston,Patterson,Frazier? Then **** no. Lewis beat Old Tyson,Old Holyfield, many forgettable European fighters that no one gives a **** about etc.
Nah, from a depth of resume standpoint the only guy you could say was better than Ali was Joe Louis. If Lewis had stuck around a few more years and beaten more top guys (even if another loss or two was sprinkled in) he'd have the argument.
Should we start a Lennox Lewis fan quote of the week thread now? These guys keep getting dumber and dumber. And GOD NO! Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis are in a league of their own, everyone else is fighting for 3rd place.
