How is my brother being an international rower and my "defending American fighters" even remotely connected??
Oh wait...I know...IT ISNT! Maybe I shouls be like the other idiots on this thread and hate foreign fighters simply because they're foreign?

I say amateurs isnt important in the same way that I think being the best minor hurler in the country isnt important. Its great for the guy, and shows they're a prospect, but it doesn't mean they'll make it as seniors.
Or for Americans, its like a guy being a star college footballer...Its cool, people are interested, it shows the guys a prospect, but if he doesnt make it in the pros...well then who cares?

I never showed any disrespect to any "amateur" fighters. Im simply making the point that when someones profession is boxing....then that person is a professional boxer. Shocking right??

But by all means, if you wish to ignore me.
Go to your user CP ->Edit ignore list -> Add my user name....and you'll never have to see my "trolling again"

When I brought up this issue last year, I was essentially belittled for even bringing this up.

Now that the AIBA, has itself called for the term "amateur" to not be used any more to describe their elite level events.
(The world championships will no longer be called "World AMATEUR championships" simply "World Championships").

Apparently this form of boxing will now be referred to as "olympic styled boxing"

So what does this mean going forward. Will the AIBA now simply become its own sanctioning body, blurring the lines between traditional professionalism and the newer form?

The APB is blatantly professional yet it doesnt count towards fighters "professional records"

Will we eventually see fights from the WSB and APB count towards fighters professional records on sites like Boxrec?

With the financial difference between what the AIBA can muster and what the big promoters/managers in the traditonal professional ranks can offer, I find it hard to see the AIBA ever truely challenging the traditional big players, not anytime soon anyway.

I think for now the WSB and APB will remain a good feeder school for the traditional pro ranks, almost like an academy system for talented boxers in their late teens/early 20s(With Cubans thrown in for good measure).

You'll see more fighters forego the first 10 fights of their careers, and simply jump straight into 8 round fights, and challenging for titles in their first 10-15 fights.

If being "paid" makes boxing professional then White Collar fighters are surely professionals, even if they are only getting like £15...

yup but then we have promotors like Haymon who take a guy with a 26-1 wsb record and has gone 8 rounds before and has him facing bums which is a disgrace

What would you refer to WSB as?

APB is clearly professional,(the clues in the name), and these guys will be competing against each other at the Olympics/World championships.

They both seemed to be held in the same regard by the AIBA who use both as a m,eans of qualification for the Olympics.

Like I said, the AIBA doesnt even refer to these events as amateur

He just fought a 8 rounder in his 4th fight.

He just happened to KO the guy in 2.

The guy being someone who went all 10 rounds with Callum Smith in Smiths 12th fight

still not good enough his been a year pro and has taken a step back in competition, he should be fighting 20-30 rated opponents in 10 rounds already

    We're getting off track here.

If his next fight is against a top 20 fighter would you be happy?

The guys fighting 8 round fights after 7 months of being a pro, against a guy who went 10 rounds with J'leon Love and Callum Smith.

I dont think that is particularly slow. Theres only so many guys like Loma who can walk right into a world title fight.

it is particularly slow when sergey did 8 rounds over 4 years ago and has 27 pro fights as you say, it's insanely so, the last guy would have been a barely exceptable debut

if he fights someone in the top 20 in his next fight in a 10 rounder id be happy

and theres only so many loma's but sergey has about 4-5 times the number of wsb bouts as loma ,is older and is the most pro experinced guy ever to turn pro
