I don't think he should retire. The whole handwrap scandle I think is now irrelevent considering the guy has his license back and will most likely be a reasonable draw (money wise) after having his name and status elevated from fighting Pac. Like it or not, if Arum can make money out of him then you can gurantee that he will. Cotto, JCCjr, Mosley, Bundrage, list could go a lot further. Marg would pose a threat to these guys still. There were times in the Pac fight where had he been fighting a less mobile character, his body assaults on the ropes would have put any of the above fighters in big danger. I'd be most interested in seeing him fight Cotto/Mosley again. Cotto because it'd be Cotto's chance at avenging his loss against the man who (possibly illegally) derailed what was fast becoming an immense career. Mosley because I am of the population whom believe the pre-fight events would most certainly have affected Marg's in ring performance. Commentators etc go on about how lack of a few mins to warm up/different gloves/banter between trainers etc can adversely affect a fighters mentality. I reckon the impending sense of huge vindication could just as easily have adversely affected Marg's mental prep. Note: I in no way intend to diminish Mosley's victory over Marg, just offering my opinion.
i dont see how people still perceive margo as a good fighter. if he had done anything recent to prove it then ye, but he hasn't!
ofcourse i can! when was the last time margo won a fight at lmw? to suggest he is top 10 is ludicrous. you have guys like dzindzuruk, cotto, bundrage, santos, foreman, angulo, kirkland, alvarez, chavez jr, rhodes, cintron, martiyosan, mundine, martinez, williams, ndou i could go on and on but i believe i made my point. margo has done fuk all to justify a top ranking.
:goodAgreed. People say Mosley held too much which may be true but the fact is Mosley beat his ass. Whitaker held DLH, Charles held Marciano, I could go on. Clinching is apart of the sport so people need to deal with that. I admit that constant holding can be frustrating to look at but I hate it most when guys hold just to hold and not for strategy or to recover.
He has heart and endurance(I still question how much he can still take) but that's it. His recent losses have been to two HOF'ers who fought perfectly so no shame in that. His performance against Garcia is probably due to rust so I don't put much value in it. I still think he has a good shot in rematches against Cotto and possibly Martinez but that's it.
I think he should soon.. Or he will take more and even worse beatings. I would give him a tune up or two and let him fight Cotto this time next year. But a fighter with his still, and injury, won't last for too much longer. I believe DLH had his orbital bone broken in his fight with Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
He's my idol in boxing but I never in a million years thought he would stop Margarito. That was one of the best nights of boxing for me. This Saturday will be in second place for a long time as I don't think anything this year can top me seeing both Pac-Marg & Mart-PWill 2 in the same night.
so his last 3 performances have been ****. when was his last good performance? over 2 years ago vs cotto. his best days are gone. he is a punching bag now.
I agree that he never followed up on that and his win against Cotto was in 147, he's in JMW now. I doubt he'll have as much success in JMW as he did at 147.
i dont think he'll have any success. he'll probs fight angulo or alvarez next and get schooled again.
