We all know what happened later, JMM basically schooled PAC in later
rounds scoring a draw but ... considering that usually the referee is
stopping fight in a good faith if there are 3 KDs in first round ....
should JMM been stopped over then and added to PAC's easy win list?

Knowing what we know now with the way he cameback no he shouldn't have been stopped.

I don't see how people say he should be stopped?
He got up and fought to a draw of course it should not be stopped.

Cortez actually did a good job in letting the fight continue.
If you really want an answer to your question, watch rounds 3-12.

But that was known after the fight, at the time when Marquez was third time KD it sounded like a mismatch and it could easily ended in hospital.

No JMM was not that hurt in that round. Although one thing that could have changed teh outcome of the fight would be if Pac got penalized for hitting JMM when he was clearly down. JMM could have even used that as an excuse to get out of the fight but he didnt even complain about that.

Only works if the three kd rule is in effect. It was not in that fight, therefore no. And thank god for that.

His legs were still good even after that third knock down Manny could have lost a point for hitting Marquez when he was down, Dont think cus I am saying that I wanted Marquez to win, I was pulling for Pacquiao to win this fight.

I honestly thought he would be too much for Marquez, Pepper Roach told me straight up Marquez is going to be a tuff fight for Pacquiao~

    hell nah!

marquez was still throwing punches, and he still had hsi feet, which tells me he wasnt hurt. he(JMM) could of complained about manny not getting a point deducted from hitting him while down, yet he just got up and stardted fighting.

Not really. if a guy is hurt you can stop the fight after just one knockdown. However, that was not the case here. Cortez was close enough to see that Marquez was not on ***** street. On every KD that he went down, he has concious and took his time to recover and didn't look glassy eyed. Plus it was the very beginning of the fight this was not a guy that had taken 12 rounds of punishment

On a related note I think that this fight is an example of why Jay Nady should not have stopped Judah vs Tzyu. Who knows if we may have seen a comeback in that fight as well.

You gotta look at this from the refs point of view. Marquez was obviously hurt but he quickly got back up. He was never wobly or on weak legs. In the KD were he takes longer to get back up hes clearly frustrated with the way things are going and you can almost sense what hes thinking "ok lets try this one more time, I know I can beat this guy if I make it through this round".

You have to remember how refs judge a fighter's level of damage after a KD. When a fighter gets knocked down in the middle of an exchange by a punch he didn't see or wasn't prepared for (sometimes called a 'flash' knockdown), they're usually not badly hurt, just stunned. On the flipside, if a fighter has already taken a few big shots, and is backed up against the ropes or in the corner and gets knocked down, it's possible that he could be badly hurt. I think refs also look for the way a fighter falls. If you get knocked down on your ass, chances are the punch did not cause you to lose control of your body - suggesting that you're probably not badly hurt. If you want to look at the way a guy falls when he's badly hurt, just google 'Pac-Hatton KO'. You get the point. Marquez was having a hard time ad******g to the southpaw stance and the speed and so he was knocked down 3 times, but wasn't truly hurt. It's a good thing that Cortez was the third guy in the ring, and not someone like Jay Nady, who probably would've stopped it after the second knock down, robbing us of a classic fight, and great comeback.
