Simple question. I always like to see a fighter avenge a loss, even if they are way ahead of the fighter they have lost to, I think out of respect they should fight them. Margarito is still a credible opponent as well, I thought he was decent against Paquaio, at least making it a bit competetive.
I do not think this is a fight boxing fans want to see, especially while there is skyrocketing public demand for Martinez to face the following Euro-level professionals: Sherzod Husanov 14-0 Kostyantyn Rovenskyi 14-0 Vyacheslav Senchenko 30-0 Selcuk Aydin 20-0 Sergiy Dzinziruk 37-0 Selcuk Aydin 20-0 Vitaliy Demyanenko 19-0 Aslanbek Kozaev 11-0 Ravshan Hudaynazarov 12-0 Stefan Stevanovic 10-0 I think Martinez vs any of the listed Euro-level warriors will quell public demand for quality fights, and help revitalize the sport. If Martinez continues to face opponents like Margarito, I do not think he will have a very rewarding career.
Well if he has two big fights this year, this would be an acceptable stay busy fight considering the history. Same with cintron, it would be an acceptable stay busy fight. If he wanted to take on these fighters instead of top level opponents, I wouldn't be impressed and it wouldn't really improve his legacy. Unless of course margo/cintron wins an interim fight or is made mandatory. However margo is so far removed from the upper levels of the sport I don't see him winning any time soon. He has only won 1 significant fight in years now so the chances of him winning another are slim.
Let me think about this... No. For Margarito sake, he would be spitting out his teeth or being put to sleep in less than six. For Martinez's sake it accomplishes nothing. He is beating up a fraud who got his clock cleaned by two welterweights.
I absolutely never blame a guy for trying to avenge a loss, really, no matter what. But, I don't think it's a good career move unless Margo grabs a good win to show he's still viable. He took a horrendous beating, we all know this.
That fight was 10 years ago. I completely understand a fighter wanting to avenge a loss, but at this point fighting Margarito would prove nothing Martinez is a P4P fighter and champion Margarito is coming off 2 brutal losses and may be at the end of his career, and Martinez is a vastly better fighter than he is It would be a beatdown at this point, and a rather pointless matchup. Unless margarito strings together 2 or 3 big victories at 154, I doubt it will ever happen.
no, no need at all. margarito is no middleweight and sergio is mid. king, so should he rule over the division. sturm, sylvester, pirog, lemieux, golovkin....... there are enough choices!
I don't think it's necessary as this happend 10 years ago and I don't think the circumstances have changed enough for Martinez to bother with this. Now if Margarito had not looked bad in his previous three fights and became a serious threat at JMW or MW then it'd be ok. If Margarito can relaunch his career in 2011 and Martinez still remains a player then the rematch could be interesting. Plenty of boxers have early losses on their careers but get better and move on, while the opponent either gets worse or stagnates. Not too many people (other than the haters) are itching for Pacquiao to avenge against Torrecampo or Singsurat; Khan-Prescott; Klitschkho-Purritty; Donaire-Sanchez; JMM-Duran etc etc. Cintron would be a better rematch; he's still active and mixing it with the best, the draw was highly controversial, they are roughly still fighting around the same weight class, and the fight was only in 2009. Basically the circumstances have remained the same so this matchup would not be pointless. Margarito and Martinez are at different points in their careers, so essentially Martinez wins by default as he continues to progress, improve and defeat higher-calibre fighters.
Sure why not..margarito vs martinez then margarito vs cotto. Both guys can get their revenge on cheato.
Sure, I would love to see it. It will give me another chance to yank Anarci's crank about Sergio being a Spaniard who just happened to be born in Argentina. :good
