Should McGuigan now try to get Frampton a deal on ITV etc?

Come to think of it he did get a fair bit of coverage from the BBC website (more than brook prior to his fight) so that's not too for fetched imo

 

i could only see this happening with the national broadcaster bbc... they could generate revenue from advertising in ways other than ad breaks.... shitload of banners all over the place in some strategic way.....adverts showing on the big screens in the arena at every opportunity between bouts which would be captured by the tv screens...things like that.
breaks from the boxing in between bouts to do short segments on the area and belfast in general to promote tourism.

carl from mixed background, good looking lad, with his following, his articulate well-mannered way of presenting himself, and the whole mcguigan back story sets it up well.

ok...the "at least not for a long time" bit there implies you think they could sometime....if so...what set of circumstances would make it happen?...what better than this ?

in these times of recession too less people can afford pay tv....everything could be lining up in place right now for it.

again...i'm just thinking aloud.

 

THe BBC took a huge gamble on Audley and still will be reminded by it, it will take a long time for them to back a fighter again.

What has to change? The attitude at the very top i imagine with regards to how boxing is viewed. Also look at Channel 5, it tried its best to market fighters and still couldnt make it work.

 

i thought channel 5 did work....they had huge numbers for furys fights.

ok...without repeating myself from other threads too much....theres a lot of stars lining up at the moment i think....
belfast is a new belfast, an amazing city nowadays...with 16,000 people following carl, with his good looks, how articulate he is, a great example of a mixed background from belfast...he could be a symbol for belfast tourism when aiming at the casual sports fan.

the attitude at the top of bbc would (again i am guessing) be swayed by the amount of people who turn out for carl, he is a world champion, he has a back story, and theres the whole mcguigan back story which is a big paragraph in irish sporting history......unlike audley, who was potential, it was about what he promised, what he could have been, frampton is the done deal right now...theres no gamble to be taken with him.

there'll be the N.I. government backing frampton...toruism boards...sponsors.

i think everything could be lining up, i really do.

 

He couldn't even sell out the Phones 4 U.

Just because people tune in doesn't make them fans. The people watching him on channel 5 were the very definition of 'casuals'. They will not put a penny into the boxing community.

 

ah...but...frampton would sell out any large arena...and as shown in the past, channel 5 do get good viewing figures, like with fury (regardless of venue selling out for him)
..and what difference would it make if it were "casuals" or hard core fans tuning in ?..how does it generate money for the boxing community ?...and what boxing community do you mean ??

It is true though, casual fans don't pay £10 a month just for Boxing. Only people I know other than myself that have BoxNation are guys with dodgy sky boxes.

 

Well the BBC definitely owe boxing fans something, we all pay our license fee and they've given us nothing since the Audley glory days. Would be great to see them introduce Carl to the public, they could reference the Mcguigan connection till they're blue in the face, images of him held aloft at Loftus Road on endless loop... they would get great viewing figures, no doubt.
