After his pathetic showing in the Spence fight, do you think Mikey should be demoted from the Top 10 P4P list???

To me, a lot of Mikey's ranking was based on what we believed he could do.

What we believed he could do? Because being an undefeated, 4 division champ, moving up to fight a big beast, for a 5th title isn't enough to believe how good he is. SMFH

Eh, no, for the same reason that Narváez shouldn't have budged so much as one spot when he moved up and lost to Donaire.

You don't get penalized for losses to bigger elites, in the p4p discussion. A lot of people seem to believe that being rated on top p4p lists requires climbing in weight successfully, but that is honestly kind of stupid. Relatively few people historically are really successful doing that long-term. Also it has nothing to do with the spirit of what "pound for pound" ranking is supposed to be about (which is simply quality relative to size).

Ho, please. Zlaticanin was a bum. Lipinets is a bum. Easter is a bum. Mikey's resume was weak, so yeah, what he could do.

EH, he shouldn't be rewarded because he was so thoroughly outclassed that it made it crystal clear he had no business being there. It'd be one thing if he put up a fight and lost. But he didn't. Basically it was a waste of time. I don't think he should keep his position after that.

Doing nothing isn't a "reward". Taking no action is doing exactly that - not taking action. That's just a push, then. In other words, no impact.

I agree one shouldn't be rewarded for a failure to move up and do well - but one shouldn't be penalized for it, either, at least not too harshly. It doesn't count one hundredth as much as would a loss (even a non-title loss in a tuneup) in one's proper/native division. Especially if that division the person is already established in happens to be their umpteenth one they've naturally climbed to already, while the one at which they moved up and lost is considered a bridge too far.

Climbing weights successfully is absolutely a factor in weighing (pun intended) in on P4Pdom. That said, it's not a prerequisite, but carries a lot of weight (pun intended).

I dunno, he could have made a meaningful fight in his own weight class, or near there (think Loma, or X) but no he jump two for a fight no one asked for or thought he had a chance. He should drop down a tick or two because he will have to prove he is still worth his ranking.

Eh...in a positive sense, maybe, but even that gets overstated unless we're talking crazy proportions of ground being covered.

In a negative sense, no way.

    Basically:

If a light welter moves up and beats the welter champ, he gets a fair amount of credit. If he beats the middleweight champ, yeah, he gets quite a bit more. If that same light welter is to lose to either of them, however, even by schooling and/or KO, it affects his standing at light welter (and in p4p ratings) about zero percent.

He is until proven otherwise. If he subsequently gets thrashed at 135 or 140, by all means drop him a spot or ten. But he shouldn't be knocked for biting off more than he could reasonably be expected to chew.

Boxers who jump can only stand to gain, not lose, in a p4p sense.

So if Mikey's resume is so weak, why then did you believe in him or what he could do?
