Should the Ring have put its Championship title up for grabs in last weekend's battle between Mosley and Mayweather? I think it would have been the perfect oppurtunity to further cement itself as the only title that matters had it done so. The Ring claims their vacant titles, as the welterweight title, could be claimed if their #1 and #2 ranked welters battle it out and in some instances #1 and #3. Well, Pacquaio was #1, Mosley#2, and Mayweaather #3, and as this whole debacle over rankings is really only the result of Mayweather retiring, and as Mosley was in the eyes of many the real welter champion, then the championship title should have been put up for grabs.

Didn't the recent Ring ratings put Mayweather as the #1 Welter? If that's the case, is he Ring Magazine's Welterweight champion? I'm a tad confused on how that works.

Ring blew it by putting Manny at #1 after beating Cotto at a catchweight, Mosley should have stayed #1 and the fight this past Saturday could have been for the championship, between #1 and #3.

That's the rankings. The title is vacant.

We've all thought Mosley at #1 but Ring went sly on us.

Not sure if you noticed but the lb4lb rankings were changed after the Mayweather-Marquez fight...

Mosley went from #4 to #3-BHOP went from #3 to #4...HOW THE RING FIGURES THAT BY A MAYWEATHER WIN OVER JMM IS BEYOND ME..MOSLEY AND BHOP DID NOTHING THAT NIGHT BUT CALL FLOYD OUT:huh

Manny didn't fight a real welter until Clottey. How he wins a welterweight title at a catch weight is beyond me. But, we have to realize that all of these things are done to bolster his career. Go after the weakest 140 lbs champion, fight Hatton only after hes been KO'd, Cotto after he had been stopped and at a catch weight. I wont say anything about the De La Hoya fight, that was just shameful. Only 1 of his last I think 5 fights he didn't hold some kind of advantage. If you think Clottey he was just coming off the loss to Cotto, do you think many fighter preform well without a few easy fight to get back into the grove of winning.

No. Look at the recent records at 147

Mosley has beaten top fighters Margo and Collazo, but lost to Cotto who Pac crushed

Pac has beaten top fighters Cotto (who lost to Margo but beat Shane) and Clottey, and has an upset win over De La Hoya

You can't split 'em, and Mayweather hadn't beaten any top fighters at 147 since 2006 before Mosley. I can't see how anyone could make a push for him for the top spot before Mosley

The Ring Champion should be determined by a Pac vs Mayweather fight, so they got it right.

Pac-Mayweather is the fight everyone cares about.why would they waste their Ring belt carrot on a 2nd place prize?

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT "OFFICIAL RANKINGS" NOT THE UNOFFICIAL ONES ME AND YOU TALK ABOUT...

ZAB WAS RANKED #2 AT WW BEHIND MARGARITO AT #1 AND BALDOMIR AS THE CHAMP (WON FROM ZAB)...MOSLEY WAS RANKED #2...

HE HAS "OFFICIALLY" BEATEN THE CHAMP, A #2, AND ANOTHER #2 IN THE WW DIVISION WHEN FACING RANKED OPPONENTS...ALSO AN UNRANKED MITCHELL

    :deal:good

caps locks mean you have something important to say.

Golden Boy owns the Ring.Putting Manny in to fight Floyd who Golden Boy promotes because Mayweather promotions isn't ****ing licensed means more money for them.Rankings will always be subjective so obviously all the ****ing professional boxing writers who make more than you do because their opinions are held to be valid.

It makes sense to wait and hold out to see if Mayweather-Pac gets done and put the belt up for that.Utmost legitimacy right there.

It matters because it would have been a big statement. I thought it was in bad taste for neither Mayweather or Pacquaio to take on the real welterweight champion, who was Mosley. I'm so glad everything fell through and Mayweather had to fight Mosley because now Mayweather established himself as the real welterweight crown and Manny has to take it from him. The ring belt would have just been the "official" statement, putting it down in concrete terms. I truly believe in titles but just wish the titles were worth more. Having one title per division is how it should be and I also believe in rankings before star power. Does it matter how much money is to be made if an injustice is done to a fighter who earned his way to the top and is put on hold by the world? Mosley got his shot, but Mayweather also got his. Mayweather became legitimate in many people's eyes.
