without a doubt imo, grew up watching benn from the start of his career and that bloke was an absoloute warrior, wanted to mix it with anyone who would fight him. the eubank v benn fights were so intense, they made each other what they are today. the benn v mcclellan fight was one of the best and most brutal i've ever seen, i don't think there was another fighter on the planet who would have beat mcllellan at that time.

I want to make clear this is a genuine curiosity post and not an antagonist post.

When I see it asked if guys like Vargas, Cotto, and other pretty decent recent fighters should get in the Hall, its usually eather 50/50 or 60-40 in favor of no.... and here almost everyone is saying yes, citing things like heart, will, ferocity, excitement, ect.... which, while all great, dont get you in the hall. If those things got you into the HOF, then guys like Gatti, Vargas, ect, should get in as well.

So my ignorance of Benns resume (despite him being one of my fav fighters, I watch his fights and I watch a lot of documentaries and shows on him, but it doesnt really give me a grasp of who it is that he fought and their level other then a few obvious guys)

So could someone give me some of his best wins, and why that should without a doubt get him into the hall, and is it really that much better then what Fernando Vargas or Miguel Cotto has done? Benn was a bit before my time and so I have to play catch up when it comes to him.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, I am truly curious. I would love to see Benn get in if he deserves it, hes one of my fav fighters based on his ferocity, attitude, and overall character and something about his demeanor says it all about him. One badass man.

As were talking about Benn who here saw the Benn vs Malinga fight in 96 as i was looking on boxrec and the judges scores seem very sttrange
    Chuck Williams 118-109 (Malinga)
    Chuck Giampa 114-112 (Malinga)
    Omar Mintum 111-115 (Benn)

How can 1 of the judges have it by 9 points to malinga and the other have it by 4 points to benn, was it a really competititive fight or just bad judging?

I think he should be inducted . He had a lot of excitement and skill. Very dominant guy with a lot of heart. I always liked Nigel's style of fighting and spirit.

Fantastic Video! Editing, music and great clips of Benn. I still have the original VHS with his run to the commonwealth title with all those early KO's. It's a great watch.
The Dark Destroyer is one of my three favourite fighters along with Lennox Lewis and Marvin Hagler. People get into the HOF for a lot less than what Nigel Benn achieved. As they used to say "he loves a good old fashioned tear up", and Benn would have one with anyone. I thought Benn matured well has a fighter, learning from his past experiences in the ring and ad******g his style midway through his career, and added other ways to land those 'educated bombs'. The most exciting fighter to come out of the UK by a long way. He did'nt need those defeats at the end of his career and maybe should of retired a little sooner but great fighter, great personality and will always be remembered for what he brought to the ring.

I say yes. He has wins over McClellan, Eubank, Barkley, DeWitt which are great wins, but I think he gets in for more than his resume. He will probably get in based on how exciting he was as a fighter more than whats on paper. I think Ward and Gatti will probably both get in too. Personally, I think the HOF shot itself in the foot by inducting guys like Barry McGuigan. Now, pretty much any former wold champion can make a case.

He shocked the world against Barkley and McClellan.

He was underdog against Eubank (II) and power-punching Wharton but put in slippery displays that all thought were not possible from him (regarding his usual aggressive style), many feel robbed against Eubank.

Also underdog against DeWitt, who went 15 competitive rounds with a peak Tommy Hearns and took Matthew Hilton's best left hooks, where he completely smashed him to pieces (Doug's ear was BLUE after two rounds!). And knocked out teak-tough Robbie Sims for the first time in his career. Plus the sneakiest spoilers out there (Sherry, Galvano, Nardiello), all battered. His KD of Malinga in his WBC loss was perhaps the most perfectly timed counter overhand right I've seen.

i think he deserves it but i doubt it'll happen for a while. it'll take a few years and a few viewings of his wars for many to give him the due consideration

Benn was just coming forward, Malinga was just jabbing and moving. Depends what you score on, Benn's come-forward approach or Malinga's range and ring generalship. Personally I'd of gone with Malinga but Bobby Czyz in New York for Showtime had it for Benn.

There was some minor controversy about a KD scored for Malinga in the last round (maybe even last minute) that appeared to be a slip by Benn, I honestly think Richard Steele realised he made a mistake straight after he started counting, looking at his face showed guilt. Benn was setting himself for a big counter-punch and slipped, and the way the judging was he'd of kept his title (had it not been counted as a KD).

Benn of course, in tears, announced his (premature) retirement in the ring straight after before proposing to his girlfriend in the middle of the ring! His face had swollen so much he looked like the elephant man. He just couldn't get past Malinga's long jab - same thing happened in their first fight in '92 when Malinga looked hard done-by, Benn just struggling to get past the long left jab of Sugarboy..
