Should noted horrible or biased judges have their licenses suspended/stripped?

I'm not just talking about the worst here, it's obvious they should be removed, but I am talking about consistently wrong judges on a general consensus view, ones who show incompetence to the basic criteria in pattern.

Like stated in another thread, Doug Tucker's name popped up due to his 120-108 Navarro score in the Mijares fight. Well, a state commission official defended him that 'scoring is subjective', as we remember my other thread stating that scoring is subjective, in a very minute form and the room for subjectivity is not as great as people believe, especially since many people simply cant score fights in impartial form, how can that state official defend such a clearly incorrect score.

The Doug Tucker score was not a mistake, he really defended himself on the Navarro 120-108 score when in question. This is ridiculous and unfair to the winner to have such a failure by way of scoring on the winner's record.

Doug Tucker needs to be stripped immediatley, but do lesser evil's who aren't as bad, but still perform routine incompetence be suspended or stripped accordingly?

And another post who goes by the name 'BlueApollo' brought up that judges need to go through a training or education program and get throughly tested and certified before even allowing to judge a fight. It is a crying shame that experienced fans are often clearer about scoring a bout than some of the scores that get read to us disgracefully. Scores should also be investigated if suspect and reversed under universal vote, such as the Navarro score and going back a bit, Chavez vs. Whitaker and penalities should be harsh, such as holding their payment for judging the fight.

Boxing fans should be more ardent about the issue, it's ****ing with our favourite sport's combatant's lively hood here. It's a form of theft.:deal

I believe they should continue to recieve greater financial rewards than other judges and not have their families threatended by promoters.

Boxing fans are incapable of organising a boycott.

Yeah, of course they should.. but this is the corrupt world of boxing, where nothing will ever get fixed unless the government gets involved or something big happens.

In a perfect boxing world, after the Mijares-Navarro fight Doug Tucker would have to publicly apologize to Mijares, then proceed to take a mandatory 1-2 from Mijares right on the chin for his wrong actions.

Seriously if we banned incompetent judges....Larry Merchant would be the judge, jury and executioner.

If you're not gonna drop the 10 point must system, they need to take new judges into a room and show them the difference between EFFECTIVE aggressiveness and INEFFECTIVE aggressivness.

I feel like that's what's one of the top 5 factors in the "Reasons why boxing sucks nowadays" listing.

Yes, the commissions ought to strip some of these judges of their licenses.

On a side note, Doug Tucker had Marquez winning 10 rounds against Barrera.

Larry, even in his drunken whacked out state, is almost always spot on with his cards...although he can occasionally have one too many leading to some weird scores.

I'm almost 99.9999% sure Harold Lederman is nothing more than a computerized fictional character made up by HBO to spout ridiculousness and "OKJIMLETMETELLYASOMETHIN" style rants.

Chuck Giampa is the worst...especially when it comes to scoring a Jermain Taylor fight.

I dont think he's ever NOT given Taylor a round.

Unfortunatly many of the bad decisions come from judges doing as they are told.

This may not make much sense to you but I was a judge for many years and in one particular world title fight when judging for a certain body, I handed in my score card and all three of us were told to re look at them by the gov body honcho that was present (it was pretty obvious what he meant by that). I relooked and gave it back, unchanged.

The fighter I had winning lost on a split decision and I didnt get a fight with that gov body for over a year.

for what its worth, I had the decision spot on.

That's really really intriguing....I've always wanted to be a judge.

Is it worth it in the long run? Howse the pay and all that?

    Its a great second income.

I did it bcause I loved it. I did local amature shows for nothing to help out.

You can do well at world title level

$10,000 plus travel expenses is what I got in the last title fight I did.

The above experience soured my taste for it at the top level

That's something I've always wanted to do after I more or less retired from my current occupation. I figured it'd be a nice thing to do when my time as a broker is up and a nice way to make extra money.

Then again, I figure if I ever got good at judging...I'd wind up in one of these threads

True, you may (I am have been in one or two too!!), but nobody would ever know!

Go for it. At the very least Judges are needed at the amature level

    no

the only time a judge should be reprimanded is when it is proven that he was bought off / in conflict of interest

Hmm.... Maybe you can help me out with an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. I'd love to take a 'close' fight and let folks take sides and do an in depth round by round. Even do punch counts since those are questioned as well.

Take a day or two, even a week to let teams discuss a round, write a paragraph to justify their score and see what happens. At the very least, I think it would be a great excercise for some of us to learn to score fights.
