After the Ruiz bout is in my opinion the time to exit stage left for Ortiz, he put on a good show, took some shots and gave plenty back, ended fight on his feet and was pressuring Ruiz in latter of fight.

However his neuro system ain't what it used to be, more punches to the head are going to exacerbate that, so yes Mr Ortiz retire with honour.

Ortiz fights to provide for his family, but retiring now means he can care for them, rather than god forbid they end up having to look after him because he has fought that one bout too many.

Thank you for the memories Mr Ortiz.

He should have a couple more fights before retiring.

    - he hasn't taken a lot of punishment during his career
    - he looked okay last night, I had him losing 114-113, and he won his previous fight
    - he should not go in with big punchers, but he could face Sanchez, Arias or Demirezen

It's very difficult to win fights when you go down thrice per fight. Even if you school the other guy, those 3 rounds + those 3 extra points are too hard to overcome.

At a decent level there is only beatings waiting for him, and that's not good for his health.

I like him, so I wish him a healthy life, so yes, I think that it is the right moment for retiring. (actually, he should have retired some time ago imho)

He looked very good last night. Except for one dubious knockdown he may have gotten a draw against an ex-HW champ.

Assuming his head is still good, and he's not hearing voices, he seems quite able to earn more cash with some undercard fights against
name opponents. Dude has lost only against two men who we ex HW champs. No one else.

Also assuming he's still having fun and he's not desparate for money.

He should have retired back when John L Sullivan beat him.

Yes. Losing to Wilder and Ruiz is fine. But he's fast on his way to becoming a gatekeeper.

No, he can fight on against the scrubs that are his usual diet. Or maybe get in there with some of the scrappers like Demirezen or Kownacki, maybe Arreola. All would be fun fights to watch. A shame Joyce didn't get in there earlier. I knew Ortiz was ripe for the picking and Joyce could have got a nice TKO win on his record.

actually not sure right now. Thats 12 round of him was massive. Anyone other then ruiz would have been in serious hurt from those shots.
Cant help to think he does have a few fights left in him still. And still nobody would jump up to fight him even now...

    Hes still serviceable.

Could beat some decent fighters, but hes 43 now and hes been in some tough fights, and Im sure he's made some good money.

    Not sure why he'd bother.

He's legs are gone, he's probably would of KOd or decisioned Ruiz in his younger years. Hang em up big guy, things can only get worse from here.

He acquitted himself pretty well last night and could definitely pick up a big payday or two yet so I don't see him hanging up.

C'mon you don't see too many heavies blasting each other for 12 rounds so I give him some credit performing to a high level.

Unless he needs money it is time to retire. It’s a young man sport. Go out while healthy and still having all your faculty.
