Should Pac-Man be the consensus #1 P4P?

Should Pacquiao replace Mayweather as the generally accepted #1 p4p fighter? I'm not a MP fan, but based on his resume the last two years (Morales, Larios, Morales, Solis, Barrera, and now Marquez), an extremely persuasive argument can be made.

    What do you guys think?

Considering they last year's resume, no.

A controversial win over Marquez and a win over past his prime Barrera (and also include if you want the win over Solis) is no better than wins over De la Hoya and Hatton. I am also considering the performances and Mayweather has looked much more dominant.

No, Mayweather, as much as he is a despicable person outside the ring, is the pound for pound king and will be until he loses or looks terrible against sub par opposition.

I don't think so -- I mean, the way he looked in this last fight isn't really the way the P4P 1 is supposed to look. There's supposed to be something really special that you can see completely sets him apart from the rest of current active boxers, and all I saw was a fast, very good slugger that was continually countered and staggered on more than one occasion, and who came very close to losing.

We have to respect PAC's official win over JMM but PFP lists are personal opinions and not based on what the sanctioning bodies tell us.

Manny had a chance to move up but unfortunately his performance against JMM left a lot to be desired and therefore, one cannot in good concience place him above PBF.

PBF also had a disappointing performance vs. Delahoya, but that win along with his emphatic victory over Hatton keep him at #1 for now

In my opinion, Floyd is still some distance ahead. The man is unbeaten and fighting well above his best weight, winning too.

If Manny takes on two live opponents before Mayweather gets back into the ring - and wins - there would be something to talk about.

2nd Morales fight - Good win

Larios- Coming off a loss went up 2 divisions

3rd Morales fight - Had lost like 4 out of 5 and was just beat by Raheem

Solis - Who the hell is Solis?

Barerra - Coming off a convincing loss to Marquez, had struggled in two fights with Juarez

Marquez II - Good, but controversial win

Sorry, Floyd is easily a better fighter than Pac. He has also accomplished more in the sport. This recent resume is not enough to push him ahead of Floyd.

Hey, I'm not saying MP should be ahead. Just asking opinions, but using your line of reasoning...let's see FM's resume since '05

    1-Bruseles - I don't want say he's a bum, but he's a bum
    2-Gatti - Glorified club fighter
    3-Sharmba Mitchell - Certainly not P4P
4-Zab - Was dominating the early fight (he even knocked down FM) until he chickened out. Good win, though.
5-Baldomir - Another club fighter that got lucky.
    6-DLH - Over the hill
7-Hatton - Good win over a blown up jr. welter.

I'm not saying he's better that Floyd (I actually think that FM would toy around with MP ala Hatton). I'm just saying that he's got a better resume and can't be dismissed so easily when discussing p4p.

My argument wasn't that Floyd should be ahead because he has a better resume. My argument was that Floyd is the better, more accomplished fighter. They only way Pac would be able to leap ahead of him, besides Floyd losing, would be to have faced and beaten much superior comp. Quite simply put, Pac's comp isn't good enough to make up for his defeciencies(in relation to Floyd) in terms of ability and accomplishments.

PBF's fighting above his ideal weight too; Hatton moving up shouldn't be used against Floyd here.

As for the question at hand, Mayweather's still number 1, especially considering Pac lost on Saturday. :tong

I understand you point, but no. If he goes up to 135 and beats Diaz then this arguement could be valid.

Why do you ascertain that PBF is fighting above his ideal weight? Just because someone fought successfully at a lower weight doesn’t make it his “ideal weight”. Take Cotto for example, was 140 his ideal weight? Of course not.
As for the other part of your comment, I didn’t see the fight, so I’ll not comment on that, but from what I’ve heard, the fight was close and could’ve gone either way. We need to respect the judges’ decisions if we want some order in boxing. Based on your comment I have to assume you do not consider Floyd an undefeated fighter as he “lost” his first fight with Jose Luis Castillo.:hi:

Resume is not the be all and end all of the p4p argument. I think we should all take a step back and take the situation in as a whole.

Pac man is nowhere near the best in the World p4p, i dont even think he is the best super featherweight in the world. I think it is still fair to rank Marquez higher pound 4 pound!:bart
