when your at the top you make the rules, thats just how it is. even money may makes his own rules. pac paid his dues in his earlier bouts, now its pay back time.

My question to you is why you consider Martinez the 'legitimate champion' when he never won the title in the ring and never once defended it in nearly a year of being 'champion'.

Given your passion for the sanctity of alphabet title belts, I think it's a fair question.

They (pacs camp - well, at least IMO) use the catchweight clause to limit the opponents ability to rehydrate to the level of another division (a WW fighter bloating up to become a MW) and not to drain them.

Like in the case of cotto, they agreed to have 145lbs as their limit so cotto wont bloat to a point where the size advantage would be too much. Its not like he was drained or dehydrated at all on fight night. It like whats theyre gonna do with margarito... if you see the size difference between them. then you know that if they let margo go in at 154lbs, the size and weight difference between the two on fight night will have an insane difference. At the end of the day, Its all about two fighters of the same weight (or at least, within a sensible weight range) will face each other.

btw, i dont think the 151lbs limit will affect margo at all. I mean the guy has been jumping back and forth from 147 -> 154 since 1996. making him weight 151 wouldnt be a problem at all IMO (he weights @ 147 lbs most of his fights).

You all are crying over nothing.

The Margo fight was put together with only a few months to prepare for it. Pac will most likely come in only a few pounds heavier than his last two fights at 147-148, if that.

Margo will be 151 and still have a significant weight advantage. The object of the catchweight was to make sure there wasn't too much of a disparity in weight to ensure as fair a fight as possible.

    No.
In those catchweight win's he pretty much beat the **** out of his opponents.

If they were close, Then maybe there is an argument....
In hindsight, It prob wouldn't have mattered.

I don't like catch-weights cause there are already so many divisions. I think the Cotto bout was okay at 145 but would have preferred the usual 147 limit. I prefer this fight be at 154, but I am thinking this will not hurt Margarito unless he does not train properly. Margarito is slow as hell either way. So I doubt it will make a difference. The worst thing is Margarito is even getting this fight.

r u kidding me, who gives a crap about catch weights anyway? we're all supposed to get all up in arms about a couple of pounds or some crap belt NOBODY cares about? who gives a **** if their fighting for a pile of rocks and some dirt, as long as they come in and put their ass's on the line who gives a ****? margacheato is all ready a ****ing giant compared to pac, how much of an "advantage" does the guy need. it's a sad day when a man can push himself to the absolute limits, take on incredible challenges that MOST ALL OTHER FIGHTERS REFUSE TO DO, and people nit pick about this or that. Why doesn't he just move up to 160 and tie an arm behind his back, then he'll get ur love right?

The collective IQ of this board went down after reading the stupidity of this post.

Catchweights have ALWAYS been a part of boxing. Deal with it.
