If, and I repeat if, the cramps are a factor, this is not the first time. The team needs to determine what is causing the cramps and elliminate them, otherwise, Manny should retire. Fighting fighters like Margquez and Floyd with the cramps is not an option. At this elite level, a fighter has to be 100%, whether it is cramps, age, hunger, attitude, conditioning, focus, or any number of reasons. Marquez is an awesome fighter, and Pac's cramps or not, it was that awesomeness, that came through and created so much trouble for Pac on Saturday night. If they fight again, which I hope they do, they both need to be 100%.
Retire? :rofl Since when was having a tough close fight illegal for a world class fighter? Damn, so many emotional ladies here.
Either way, I want to see a fourth fight no matter what. But after that, if Pac at 33 can no longer manage the in-out and lateral movement which made him so devastating a couple of years ago, I'd hang them up. What made Manny great was his movement and explosiveness. In his last two fights, it looks like he no longer has this. I don't want to see him stick around and lose badly or lose to guys he would have whipped not long ago.
It's nothing to do with this one fight. If you can't see the decline from Pacquiao in recent years, then you don't know anything about boxing. Why should he continue and eventually lose to a fighter who isn't anywhere near as good as he was?
Nah, I don't think so. Pacquiao's movement is nowhere near as good as it was a few years ago. He showed better movement against Marquez in 2008, so unless Marquez improved a lot since then, Pacquiao has declined.
Everyone declines as fights go but to say he's in a position to retire is absurd, he still can bring a lot of challenging and exciting fights against almost everyone out there. Fact is, a fight with Marquez would always make him look bad based on Marquez' style, if it was an aggressive opponent and Pacquiao knocked him out you wouldn't have started a thread like this. Did you start a thread similar to this after the Hatton, Cotto, Margarito or even Clottey fights?, I don't think so. The only reason you start this discussion now is because Pacquiao has been looking explosive since late 2008.
Even though I do agree he's on the decline, I don't think the Mosley fight is a good enough example. He was in there against an opponent who was on the defensive ever since he was dropped, of course he would look bad and frustrated when his opponent isn't willing to engage in any way. He didn't look much different against Margarito yet Margarito was always willing to get pummeled and that's never used as an example. If Pacquiao doesn't do what certain fans, usually the majority, expect him to it doesn't mean he's done with. It just means his opponent deserves credit for making him look different than you were hoping/expecting.
I dont know, I have this feeling that if he fights maidana or berto for example he will look like he did vs cotto perhaps.
