That was a legitimate mistake by Pat Russell How many times do they have to signal the 10 sec warning. I thought the bout was over, ther wasn't any more than 6 or 7 secs left anyway
The fighter themselves sorted it out make a rematch as soon as possible for Vargas sake. Bradley was so far ahead even another knockdown wouldn't have helped

Lawrence Cole is an angel compared to Steele, Cortez, Wright Bayless etc Their bias is blatant. I think Floyd could carry a 2x4 in ring & hit his opponent with it Bayless still wouldn't DQ or even deduct a point LOL

He just needs a hearing aid. If you hear someone clapping two pieces of wood together, and you think it's a bell, you need hearing aids.

They need eye and ear tests for these refs and judges these days...

Pat Russell admitted that he is unfit to referee. He is hearing loud noises that don't exist. Dangerous when he is the only man charged with protecting the two combatants.

Actually the stoppage hurt Bradley more than it did Vargas. It tainted the victory for Tim and gave Vargas hope. Everybody, including Vargas knew he was losing.

Vargas gave himself hope by landing the best punch of the fight in the final moments. We don't know what would have happened in the final 10 seconds, so there's no way to say for sure who it helped / hurt more. If Vargas would have knocked him out, then the ref helped Bradley. If Bradley would have survived anyway, then it helped Vargas. Even if Bradley would have survived, it still would have been a huge confidence booster to Vargas to end a fight strong.

Without Vargas landing that right hand, none of this is a big talking point. Bradley was outworking Vargas throughout most of the first 9 rounds, though it wasn't dominant. Many of the rounds Bradley won were close. Round 2 for example, Vargas was winning the first half of the round but then Bradley came on in the 2nd half of the round. That could have been an even round. The last 3 rounds Bradley was visably fading and Vargas was more aggressive. Vargas won round 10 and he won round 12 big, and round 11 was very close and could have been another even round.

I will respond to this because it seems that it is in reference to what I wrote. I am addressing what actually happened and not what could have happened so (if) plays no part in this. It don't matter how close the rounds seemed to you or who you think won what. The fact is that two judges had Bradley winning by a considerable margin and he won the fight. However, because of the early stoppage his win is tainted and that hurts his resume. Vargas on the other hand, who knew he was losing has hope in a rematch and renewed confidence that he can win because he knows that he can hurt Bradley.

He almost certainly did NOT save Bradley.

By the time he (wrongly) stopped the fight, there were eight seconds left.

Bradley heard the 10 second warning and was in the process of clinching/hugging his way to the final bell. Worst case scenario, he could have taken a knee à la Cotto, and run out the clock.

It was a bad mistake for the elderly gentleman to make, but it's unlikely it affected the outcome of a fight where Vargas had won two, or at best, three rounds.

Yeah, it was an honest mistake and I don't think it would've changed a whole lot but who knows
