I suggest you rewatch the fight. If that's your honest opinion of how the fight went, that is fine, but many people with unbiased views for either fighter had Hopkins edging it and many more considered it very close at the end. Some people gave Pavlik one round, no one else gave him anything else. It also doesn't help Pavlik's case if Hopkins was supposedly "dominated" by Calzaghe and therefore would lose his top 10 position and then go on to outclass Pavlik in almost effortless fashion.
Fair enough.I still don't feel that Pavliks defeat throws him off the chart...I stated 8-10, which seems reasonable
No,,,,,**** No,,,,,he should never been in the top ten,,,when i say this i mean ring mag top ton,,no this guy beat a taylor who was not game at all, an if he can out box taylor, an then get schooled by hopkins, somthing wrong...no he not even the best at 160, i can't see him beating niether abraham or sturm, but if he beat both of them, then sure maybe 9-10,,,i one to believe you need beat more then one champ, to get in the top ten,,,,i would put winky wright over palvik, cause p4p i say he beats him, an don't think winky is a top ten, maybe at 20 or above,,,,,
This is true, if he is off the top 10 than he's no lower than 12 IMO. Hopefully he rebounds well and does good work at 160.
Absolutely not! He beat a Jermaine Taylor who is talked about as being one of the most overrated middles of all time! He actually was put on ***** street in there first fight by someone who could not ko spinks or ouma:rofl:rofl:rofl, I had there second fight a draw, even a close taylor win. Then he fights Hopkins who is a legend, OLD one at that and gets totally dominated like Mijares was tonight, reminding everyone PavliK and Mijares were HEAVILY favored for both fights. He should have never been in the top 10 to begin with and presently not even close, probably anywhere from 12 to 16.:deal
This is the root of the problem. If we believe that 'styles make fights' then it is quite possible for a non-P4P fighter to beat a P4P fighter on that basis. That, in my opinion, was what happened in the Hopkins v Taylor fight. By beating Hopkins Taylor showed himself to be a potential top ten P4P fighter. To confirm that he needed to show more evidence against a range of opponents. His following performances were not good enough to provide that evidence, so I never considered him a top ten P4P. Likewise Pavlik. Margarito doesn't make the top ten on the basis of one win where he was getting the run around for much of the fight. Out of interest, how high in your personal P4P top ten are you planning to put De La Hoya should he knock out Pacquiao?
No. And to be honest i dont think he should of been prior to B-Hops victory over him. Again as i have said before alot of people have an idea that just because a genuine P4P fighter loses to an "ordinary" fighter then that fighter should be elevated into the P4P rankings to. Take a look at Mayorga, his biggest win prior to Forrest was against a B-level champion in Andrew Lewis, he then beat Forrest (who had beaten a genuine P4P entrant in Mosley) and suddenly he was being ranked in theP4P top 5:-( Yes the guy is fun to watch but just because you have one big win doesnt give you the right to be where your victim was, if you get my drift. And i believe this was the case for Pavlik, he had one big win (Miranda), a bigger win in Taylor, he won the rematch but looked average in doing it, then he fought a guy who wasnt even the best Middleweight we have in England (Lockett). Then he gores and loses every round to B-Hop (i knew this would happen but i thought he might actually win a couple of rounds) and this is hardly a P4P entrants regime.
ok i'm tired of this.before pavlik was given his boxing lesson by the executioner bernard hopkins everybody thought he was the p4p boxer in the world.Natural power puncher with a stiff jab and a heart of a lion. Then when he gets beat by a FUTURE HALL OF FAMER and a DEFENSIVE MASTER who has seen it all now everybody jumps off his bandwagon because he lost a NON TITLE bout against one of the best fighters ever.come on now he's still the middleweight champion and he still deserves to be on that list!Maybe he was overconfident going into that fight but he learned his lesson and i guarantee he will continue to wipe out the middleweight division and will not go back up in weight to fight unless it's againt the master of slap boxing joe calzaghe.
Nope. A Top 10 p4p fighter should not be so one dimensional and should not be so outclassed like Pavlik was. The only reason he was up there was resume, and in fairness he was unbeaten and with two good names on the resume, limited or not he was kinda given the benefit of the doubt. But Hopkins proved what many suspected, Pavlik is not an elite fighter.
an embarassing loss in and of itself to none other than b-hop is really nothing to be ashamed of I havent seen the fight, just clips, seems that its hard to parts of or anything close to the whole fight on youtube watched both pavlik taylors and TBH the second one impressed me more I watched a few other pavlik fights over the past couple of years, wasnt a rabid fan or anything and I thought "great basics, good natural build etc" but I also thought his style was a bit rudimentary for the top level of the sport
