Pavlik declined the fight for Sturm because HBO only offered 2 million dollars which would have to be split. Pavlik would get $1 million. I think that he should go ahead and make the fight happen because then he would have 3 belts if he beats him. Then he could make the fight with Abraham and get a larger split of the money.
Pavlik would not get a million. Keep in mind that money also goes to his corner and everybody else involved.
HBO's so called "offer" was an insult to both fighters. Felix can make more than that beating up hobos in Germany, and Pavlik earned $2.5 million for fighting the pocket rocket.
HBO need to dump Pavlik unless he fights 1 from Abraham, Williams, Sturm, Forrest, Any top SMW/LHW. He has a serious case of pussyitus since the BHOPs loss
That 2 million is only from HBO. You have to realize there would be money from ticket sales, German TV, sponsors etc. Pavlik and Sturm would be getting much more than 1 mil apiece.
That price is an insult and I don't blame either man for not being interested at that figure. That's the kind of offer that makes me seriously question how much HBO even wants Pavlik; he was never supposed to be "the guy" for them- it was supposed to be Miranda or Taylor. Now that he is, they're not helping him in the slightest in fighting consistently good match ups.
Why because he is British? A lot of middleweights would of been knocked down numerous times and stopped early against Pavlik.
Great minds think alike, eh? :!::good Looking at the situation, it seems like a logical conclusion to see it like that. It's about the only reasoning I could think of as to why they're treating Pavlik as an afterthought even though they've got the recipe for success- a good story, a good puncher, and the lineal MW champ- in their pocket.
