Okay -- I'll stop pushing peoples buttons, and try to be fair. You're correct about the context of Wegner's statement. AA lost 4-5 rounds to a guy Pavlik would light-up in 5 rounds or less. And, AA looked bad in the process. Sauerland and Wegner knew by this time that Arthur was done at 160. Wegner said that version of AA would never beat Pavlik. Arthur and Sauerland made the right move for AA's career.

Barker/McDermott. My intitial impression is Barker looks to have potential, but he isn't ready for prime time. He needs a few fights against guys like Ornales, Zuniga, Lopez, and that sort; guys who are tough, and have fought some really good fighters. Right now I think KP would hand him his head right quick, and Sturm would thoroughly outbox him. He needs another 5 or 6 fights against a variety of styles. Keep in mind I'm basing this off one fight I watched on You Tube, so I might be full of ****:yep

McDermott aint his latest fight and I'd back Barker against Lorenzo and Sturm right now. He's been wanting Macklin for ages, but Macklin (who many seem to think is ready) would be outboxed by Barker, with relative ease.

Barker is fringe world-class right now. I'd love to see him fight Macklin then someone like Golovkin in an eliminator or something.

Don't take me wrong. I wasn't knocking Barker. There is nothing wrong with givng a guy time to develop his craft. We are talking about middlweights, and that eventually leads to Pavlik at 160.

At 160 no fighter has ever seen the 10th round against KP. These guys like Pirog, Macklin, Barker, McEwan, and others all show promise, but showing promise is one thing, and being truly ready for a guy who changes peoples lives forever with his right hand is another thing all together.

I tend to be pretty conservative when it comes to opinions about moving prospects/contenders up the food chain. Boxing history is littered with the career-corpses of guys who were pushed to hard to soon.

If it were up to me, I'd keep Barker on the British ciruit for a couple more fights, and then bring him to the states. When he got here I'd put him up against a couple tough contenders on a ShoBox or BAD undercard. Let him gather experinece and get some TV exposure in the USA.

Stay at 160, If an aging Hopkins was able to do that to him, imagine what Hopkins Jr.(Andre Ward) would do to him, besides the top boxers in the division are tied up for another 2 years.

I just don't understand it sometimes. Not like the freaking ocean should mean much anymore. Maybe you are right about the fast buck. A plane ticket eats into their profits too much. :patsch

He should stay at 160 for now, there's still guys for him to fight there. If he cleans it out or starts to have trouble making weight, then he can go up to 168.
