Should refs be harder on guys that initiate clinches?

Yes. Clinching sucks, without it we would never have had to endure Hatton and Ruiz.

Dude please. Clenching is an art. If you don't understand that you don't understand boxing.

You also don't seem to get that even though it is a "sport" a boxing match is a life or death war. You may enjoy watching two guys knock each other's blocks off, but if you go box for a little while you will see that it ain't fun. Also you will see by looking at Muhammad Ali that it ain't about being "tough".

It isn't cheating unless it is excessive. Even if a point is deducted it is still just a tactic and should be in the toolbox of ALL boxers.

Although its not really that interesting to watch two sweaty shirtless dudes rub chests, MW has a point- good boxers would know what to do with an excessive clincher.

I agree. I guess I did get too carried away with bein right. It prevented me from thinkin logically.

What I meant to say is I think refs should do something about excessive clinching.

Perhaps a better thread would be, "What constitutes excessive clinching?"

And I admit, the guy did have some points. I'll try to be more objective in the future.

Damn. You the man. You see that you ****ed up, and just admit it and move on.:good

I don't have anything to add, as MW has already expressed mostly what I believe on the topic.

  8. SERIOUSLY!

Don't start a thread with a question and then start hurling personal insults at people who don't answer the way you wanted them to.

    OP: [Question]

    Poster: [Answer + opinion]

    OP: **** you! You're ******ed!

The ref should be a lot harder on the boxers who make clinching a big part of their game plan. Like Berto or BHop for example.

I do not fault fighters for using the clinch. The fault lies entirely in the referees. It is the referees job to decide when clinching becomes excessive. I think that refs should do more to stop clinching, especially when it's become part of someone's strategy.
I think refs need to be quicker to warn, take points away or even dq someone for excessive clinching.

Dirrell is like a clinching machine.

I bet when he was born he just went straight into a clinch with the mid-wife.........and then deliberately threw himself on the floor as he was being handed to his mama.

The fault lies in fight fans watching Boxing. Clinching is part of the sport. Fighting a short guy. In trouble. Etc... As long as you are throwing meaningful punches and working? It is a tactic.

Only people who have never watched an old fight think that the clinching in almost ANY of today's fight is excessive. Clinching in today's championship level boxing is minimal at best.

If you think your right STFU and dont come post a thread about hearing other people opinion when you dont want to ear them.
