Should refs be harder on guys that initiate clinches?

Clinching is part of the sport, holding is not.

clenching is definitely a part of boxing, even in a video game if you clench excessively they take a point away (FNR4 if anyone games). But I will say this had Hatton vs Tszyu took place in the U.S. Tszyu would've defeated him.

I hate clinching too but some people in this thread pointed out some interesting and good points. It's lame but it's always been a part of the sport.

I think excessive clinching should be punished more consistently though. Maybe by establishing an upper limit of the number of clinches per round before you're deducted a point. Or if such a limit already exists, penalize it more uniformly.

clinching is part of the game. A fighter who is good can break down a clincher and knock him out. That is the art of boxing.

Well it's easy to criticize clinching when you aren't in the ring fighting and about to get ko'd. **** if guys like Hearns & Cotto clinched maybe they wouldn't of loss to Hagler, Barkley(Hearns) or Margarito(Cotto). Clinching has been done countless times and even Jack Johnson did it in the old days. Im for clinching when it's to accomplish something, not when people are frustrated and do it for no reason.
