Should Roy Jones get full credit for beating John Ruiz???

    he was never the middleweight champion or HW champ though he was a belt holder basically a contender

    those other guys were the champion

    by beating ruiz Jones was probably approx no 4 contender at heavyweight

    is that a huge achievment really ?

    For those complaining: Please list the boxers that have been able to go from Middleweight to Heavyweight and win a title. Most middleweights wouldn't be able to compete at heavyweight in their career, let alone get a piece of the title.

    Lol, unsentdemon. Do you know Ray Robinson was asked one time about fighting Rocky Marciano, because weight classes were a little more ignored back then. He wouldn't fight him.

    So maybe Roy Jones didn't fight Marciano, but he fought still a highly rated Heavyweight with real wins over top level fighters at the time.

    Wel Robinson fighting Marciano would be the equivalent of Hopkins fighting Tyson or Holyfield in their primes. Marciano was the best heavyweight out there unlike Ruiz.

    At the time though everyone thought Jones was mental and that Ruiz would kill him.

    We can look back at it now though and see that Jones picked up a paper title against a weak champion.

    well it's no coincidence that RJJ and Toney are the only 2 middleweights to win a title at heavy since Fitzsimmons because both of them chose Ruiz though Toney tested positive for steroids so his W got taken away.

    the heavyweight title has a lineage and a history and neither jones nor ruiz are a part of it no matter which way you spin it

    Jesus christ, you got the Klits and Lennox as the other Champions.. Those guys are mountains of men over other Heavyweights. People talk about making a whole new weight class for people as large as them. That would be like Duran trying to fight Ali..

    The only people that really hyped that fight up were the Hbo crew and promoters and stuff. I can't recall any body giving a damn about this fight much less holding it in such high regard. As soon soon as the fight is over you Can hear Lampley says Roy Jones exposes the "paper champ". and then Foreman goes on to say, "Oh no don't do that"

    Oh? Was there a fight where Hopkins went up and fought a Heavy like Tyson or Holyfield? Did I miss that somewhere? Did he fight any heavy? Ever? Even lets say someone who is ranked as a Number 4 Contender?
