Should Shane Mosley give Miguel Cotto a rematch?

After Shane Mosley's shocking performance against Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley once again finds himself holding the claim as the best welterweight boxer in the world.

Shane Mosley has already gone public in stating that he would like to avenge his November 2007 loss to Miguel Cotto, a fight in which was very close and some including Shane himself felt he won. After defeating Shane, Cotto later went on to suffer a TKO loss to Margarito in July 2008, and Margarito was just defeated by Mosley last night. Now Shane once finds himself back in the position as "the man" of the 147 division and his decisions for his future will definetely determine the outcome of the excellent welterweight division.
Shane Mosley is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, while Miguel Cotto & Antonio Margarito are both promoted by Top Rank Promotions. These two promotional companies have been putting their fighters in the ring against eachother in attempt to bring us some of the most exciting fights possible. Most recently these two companies came together to bring us Bernard Hopkins vs Kelly Pavlik and Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya. With last nights victory going to Shane Mosley, the welterweight division once again is in the power of Golden Boy Promotions.

Shane Mosley has always been one to seek revenge when he's unsuccessful the first time. In 2002 when he lost to Vernon Forrest, he asked for and accepted an immediate rematch to avenge the loss to the hands of Forrest. In 2004 when he was defeated by Ronald 'Winky' Wright, he once again asked for and accepted an immediate rematch. Though he loss in both rematches, Shane has always been one to seek revenge when the first outing doesn't go in his favor. When judges favored Miguel Cotto in his bout against Shane Mosley, Shane Mosley once again asked for an immediate rematch, though this time he wouldn't have his chance to avenge his loss. Instead, Miguel Cotto & Top Rank moved on to match up Cotto with Alfonso Gomez.

After successfully defeating Gomez, Cotto then suffered his first professional lost to Margarito. Since the loss, Cotto hasn't fought but is scheduled for a "confidence booster" against Michael Jennings. If successful, Miguel will receive the chance to avenge his loss to Margarito. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum stated before Margarito's loss to Mosley that the outcome of their fight didn't matter, Margarito vs Cotto II was still going to happen, if Cotto is successful against Jennings.

If Cotto is successful against Jennings, after the Cotto vs Margarito rematch, Shane is going to have options on the table, and he may have a tough decision to make. Shane may set his eyes on something more interesting and refues to give Miguel Cotto a rematch if Cotto is successful in his next 2 scheduled bouts. Some may want to see a Cotto vs Shane II, but Shane may look in another direction. After all, when Shane wanted a rematch which was deserving, Cotto and Top Rank didn't grant him with a rematch. If Shane does rematch Cotto, and Shane once again loses, who's to say Top Rank & Cotto won't deny Shane again? So my questions to the fans are:

1 = Should Shane imposed his power and do what Miguel Cotto and Top Rank did to him and not give Miguel Cotto a rematch?

2 = Should Shane once again show his pride and try to avenge his loss to Miguel Cotto?

Clottey isn't moving backwards, lets just say his career is on a "freeze" at the moment. But if SSM gave him the opportuinty to unify, it would defeinetely put his career in 5th gear!

A part of me says Shane should refuse to let Arum get a pay day off of him...

But a part of me says he should be the bigger man and fight Cotto's punk ass again. he shouldn't be like Margarito and refuse to rematch a guy who already beat you. That would be a ***** move.... one which Arum and company has been known to perform.

Now look where it got them....

    GOD don't like UGLY!

I would definitely say these 3 options.

Cotto-Margo winner (more so if Cotto wins)

    Clottey

    or Floyd.

    Also forgot.

Paul Williams is also a quality choice, a lot consider him to be the true #2 fighter.

Only reason he's "moving backwards" is because his promoter doesn't care about him. But he does have a belt, and Shane may be interested in unifying.

whether his promoters screwing him over or not....

he does shane mosley no good on the resume.........

clottey is random & unproven... zab is his best win... lets be real

beating cotto in a rematch>> welterweight unification
    beating floyd > welterweight unifcation..

those are the only 2 fights that shane should focus on right now... anything eles is treadmill status

Mosley has already said he'd fight Cotto, but only if they want the fight, he's not gonna go looking for them

Well, here's the facts. Cotto is fighting Jennings next month. After that, the AM vs Cotto fight is scheduled to happen in June, but due to AM's beating last nite, that fight may happen in July if not later. There's no guarantee when that fight is going to happen. And after that, the winner and loser will be pretty beat, if Shane wanted to face the winner, the fight may happen in like December, if not later. Thats like 11 months off right there, and you just seen what happened last time Shane was off for 10 months. So in the meanwhile, it woulldn't hurt him to try to unify against Clottey, because I'm pretty sure Berto isn't gonna accept a fight against him. Shane can sit around and try to play negotiating time with PBF if he wants to, but that fight may never happen. And PBF wont fight him anytime soon because theres too many other big fights happening this year. No way is PBF gonna fight in the same month as another big fight like Pac vs Hatton or Cotto vs AM 2.

I want Cotto to fight Clottey, then Mosley to fight the winner, but I don't know who Mosley would fight in the meantime.

You guys cant keep banking on him to fight Pac or PBF. PBF may not even come out of retirement and SSM may not be to thrilled with fighting a smaller man!
