Mosley was ranked number 1 at Welterweight before he went a full year without fighting.

Floyd Mayweather was the lineal Champion before he retired.

Should Floyd Mayweather vs Shane Mosley be for the World title??

It should be, Mayweather is the former lineal champion and is undefeated and Mosley defeated the then number one ranked margarito for the top spot....ironically Manny Pacquiao is ranked # 1 after beating Cotto at a catchweight who Margarito battered, and Clottey who arguably beat Cotto... If they were gonna drop Mosley for inactivity they should have taken him out of the rankings entirely, not conveniently find a reason to rank Pac-Man at one.:patsch

No too many people on here will still have Pac the number 1 guy, so the winner fights Pac and then there will be no arguement after that.

The winner would have a perfectly legitimate claim to number 1 ranking, but they wouldn't have proven beyond dispute to be the actual man, not until Pacquiao loses at the weight.

Yes I think so. The title at the moment would be best decided by Mosley vs. Pacquiao, but Mosley vs. Mayweather could also be for it.

I'd say no, but they are two elite fighters and Pacquiao will not end up fighting either, so we won't end up having an ESB champ.

take this to the main rankings page but until Cotto fights at 154lbs he will stay ranked at welterweight.

Pacman fought Cotto and Clottey at 147. Cotto was a catchweight.

Mosley is number 1 inactive or not. He was still the number 1 welterweight

After Mayweather retired. Mosley and Cotto fought for "number one". Cotto won then lost to Margo. Margo then lost to Mosley.

Clottey has fought and lost his biggest fights and is proving to be a gatekeeper to the elite fighters if anything.
