Should Shane Mosley vs Floyd Mayweather be for the ESB World Welterweight Title?

Surely you just move to the next fight then in Cotto vs Margo?

Either way it still ends up with Mosley being the man at welterweight.

if what i remember is correct, pac(#1) and barrera(#3) at 130 then was not for the ring title. it was only for the championship when pac fought marquez who is #2 that time.

Not the same P4P, but Pacquiao's only relevant 147 win technically is Clottey, which is, well, not that relevant at all.

The only three occasions when a fighter will lose his championship status are when he retires, moves to another weight division, or is defeated in a championship bout.

The Ring Ratings are compiled by the magazine's editorial board, with the participation of The Ring Ratings Panel of boxing journalists from around the world.

The instances are basically whatever they want them to be. In the past they have referred all decisions to their rankings panel and taken a vote - eg. Calzaghe (no 1) vs Lacy (no 3) was for the title because the panel felt that Calzaghe was clear number one and Lacy was on a similar level to the number two Kessler. Cotto (no 1) vs Margarito (no 3) was not sanctioned for the Ring title largely because Margarito had lost within the previous year to the number two fighter Paul Williams.

However the Ring then circumvented the whole process with Klitschko (no 1) vs Chagaev (no 3) where the editor just decided off his own back to make the fight for the Ring title without reference to the panel and despite the lack of any serious argument that Chagaev would be on the same level as Vitali who was number 2. So they basically do whatever they like.

 

Definitely not. Ratings are really ****ed up these days. Imo Mayweather should be unranked right now at 147, his only fight there in ages has been against a guy who never fought there before. I'm not saying he's not the best fighter in the world, don't get this **** twisted. But to say this is for the welterweight chapionship is ****ed up, lets keep boxing right.

 

I think he's the best already. But what i'm saying is purely in terms of rankings. Rankings must be consistent, not changed for particular fighters.

 

What is with your guys' obsession with all these bull**** titles being on the line. This fight is to decide who is the best 47er in the world, no titles needed.

No ESB is obsessed with this nonsense. The first story on the home page is how the WBA strap won't be on the line. There is about 3 other threads discussing what titles are going to be on the line, etc. Who cares? Why is it even a question? The winner of Mayweather/Mosley is going to be the best welterweight in the world, no fake championships needed. Besides, everyone knows Floyd is the lineal 147 champ.
