Split decisions are sort of fine because that's the reason there are three judges, just in case one of them is wacky. But if the fight was close and a SD, the sanctioing body should demand a rematch if there is a title or ranking on the line. In some cases, the fighters may not want a rematch so it should not be automatic in all cases.

 

I think it would be too open to corruption if that rule was in force or every fight - would be too easy to bribe one judge to gaurentee a fighter gets two title shots instead of one, provided he can go the distance.
Too many quirks as well e.g. what if the rematch is another SD, what about MD's etc.

I would say the governing bodies should force more re-matches for close or controversial fights though.

 

According to the judges Shane beat DLH in there first bout by Split D. Shane won that fight clearly.

 

If they do then it slows the division down. They tried to make malignaggi fight Ngoudjo again after he fought N'Dou 4 fights 2 opponents. Thankfully Mal went for Hatton and Ngoudjo fought Urango when they could of made Mal fight Hatton and have the division one step clearer to being cleared out.

 

No because some fights aren't even close and it's still a split decisions. In a fantasy world who ever broadcasts the fight should put up a poll and let the fans vote on whether or not a rematch is necessary. Or have like 10 of the worlds boxing experts decide

 

Fair enough. I guess at most weights every re-match is just denying someone else their shot. In some cases though, like Calzaghe-Hopkins, it would help bring more clarity to the division than there was when people were saying Hopkins should have got the nod, but I don't suppose there were any sanctioning bodies involved in that in the first place.
