I’ve seen people ask recently why Dubois obliterated Joshua but then “didn’t turn up” against Usyk. Dubois did turn up but it’s a completely different type of fight. The super heavyweights are built to stand infront of each other and throw bombs until one of them is KO’d. They aren’t designed to stay light on their toes and keep up with Usyk’s pace.

I feel like these guys should be in a different weight class to Usyk in order to actually see closer match ups in the division.

Unpopular opinion but I say yes. Even though I think there are too many weight classes, it's the top end ironically that needs them more than most. Although that's why bridgerweight was created. I'd like to see all 4 organisations adopt it, and then, to be a heavyweight, you should automatically need to be 225 lbs or more, to fight in that division. Bridgerweight at the moment can't be taken seriously while you can still choose to fight at heavyweight at 220 lbs, and I assume that will change if all 4 get on board with it. I don't like the term "super heavyweight" though, "heavyweight" should always be the biggest division no matter what.

Its the only division ever created that got aborted. Twice. By two different generations. It doesn't exist for a reason.

Modern superheavyweight would be the Mike White invitational.

You could do super heavyweight but to protect the super heavies. Heavyweight would still be the top and king weightclass of boxing. That might actually be a good idea.

Weight classes make boxing interesting, when you are about to watch a lightweight fight you expect something different from a light heavy fight. I alwas thought it is a bit sad that we don't really see a lot of bulky, big body types because almost everyone has to make weight but the heavyweights.

Let's make super heavyweight above 130kg. And they can obviously choose to compete in heavyweight, like bridgers and cruisers and even middleweights can if they are crazy. But the ones that aren't miller or fury on his bad days will rather try to win the super heavy title. And normal heavies can not compete there. And fury and miller wouldn't go up there, because the money fights would all be at heavyweight

So we would see different fights. Super big guys and they could develop different tactics and techniques around stamina and clinching. First champion might be eddie hall, who knows.

I would find it very interesting, where it would lead this Division. Just really curious

While I don't think it's necessary, the bridgerweight class is already in place and could be used without changing the name of heavyweight to super heavyweight. Currently, the brigerweight limit is 224. They could just raise the limit to 235 or so.

Humans are getting bigger, so it may have to be considered at some point. But not because we've got a smaller champion knocking out the big blokes. Weight classes are maximums, not minimums, so Usyk could still fight super.

I wouldn't call this a stupid idea, but fragmenting the premier division in the sport at a time when it is struggling, particularly in the US, is probably not the best marketing move. Fighters are getting bigger in some aspects, but it depends on how you break it down from a skill and size perspective.

Itauma is smaller than Lennox Lewis, and Usyk is smaller than both Lewis and Itauma, and there's no HW alive who beats Usyk. It might be a better idea to raise the heavyweight baseline limit at some point if fighters are getting noticeably bigger, but I wouldn't say that is necessarily the case.

NO. In fact, please lower the cruiserweight limit back to 190. No one is convincing me Jai Opetai isn't a heavyweight in anything but name.
