Yes IMO. e.g. If the fight is over 12 rounds = 47 minutes (12x3 + 11x1) why extend it by....say 8 seconds??
Anyway, to end the argument, if contesting OZ title, final bell saves downed boxer. This also applies in Qld & SA, where ANBF rules are in force.
What happens when the ref immediately waves it off if a fighter is brutally knocked out rather than giving him a count. Also, theoretically, a fighter could be killed in the ring yet still win the fight
If the fight is waved off as soon as downed boxer hits the canvas it's still within scheduled time, which is a KO, albeit not always ruled as such. Under ANBF rules, if a boxer died after the final bell & was ahead on points at the time, he would be declared winner. I recall Jack Rennie stating at ANBF AGM, WBF would've decalred Lance Hobson winner, even though his death was not contributed to knockdown. Silly statement IMO.
I'm a firm believer the bell should not save you from a knockdown that's already occurred. If you can't get up from a blow that occurred within the round I can't see why the bell should be your saving grace.
Problem with that, the guy might've been knocked down during the round, but was not counted out during final round, which concluded at either @ 2 or 3 minutes.
I realize that, and under those circumstances I do not think the bell should save a guy who has just be knocked down and can't get up :good
