Should the Catskill team get more credit than Tyson himself for 85-88?

    You're still trying too hard. Bottom line is this:

    1) Tyson was the one in the ring. He deserves the most credit for his successes and the most blame for his losses. He's not some video game or remote-controlled car, he's a human being/athlete.

    2) Let's be clear: Tyson came very, very close to knocking Douglass out without them. Kevin Rooney didn't come close to doing anything comparable without Tyson.

    Yeah so it was Tyson's problem that he couldn't beat Douglas right?

    Yes. His personal issues and his lack of discipline and preparation outside the ring are the main reasons that he came within a second of knocking out Douglas but didn't finish him.

    I was just making a descriptive, factual statement. Your assessment of what Buster might have been able to do may be correct but it's most speculation. In any case, my main point remains--the blame for the lOSS falls on Tyson. Are you not satisfied with it?

    Without reading further (so far) if I may;

    Rooney had Tyson's respect and trust, which was pretty rare. Rooney himself was not a great trainer, but he was a good fit for Tyson. Rooney followed the Cus 'system' so to speak, and also Cus' training methods.

    I think someone like Atlas (Tyson's original trainer) would have probably done as well as Rooney did. Of course Rooney does deserve credit, but essentially he just carried on the work laid out by Cus to begin with.
    It (in my mind) is similar to what Banks is doing with Wlad. Steward laid out the groundwork and Banks is carrying on the work.

    I think Cayton and Jacobs were good for Tyson too. Very good. They did a great job co-managing him and getting his name out there.
