I kind of wish two fighters could just meet at what ever weight they felt like

Most of the BEST fighters are from Euro countries you mean.

USA have far more current cruiserweights than any other nation. They just all suck.

    You are an ignorant troll.

If you bothered to follow the division. You'd know it's been a stacked brilliant division for years( and still is now)

Weight classes exist for many reasons, if you want boxing to expand...This inflation is necessary (even more weight classes, when females eventually start KOing males).

If boxing becomes less popular, then weight-classes have to be cut down as far as 4 weight classes, this will make for interesting fights, but the boxing Elite will become much smaller in size.

Most boxing people want Average Joe to be able to identify with the sport...Its good to keep the sport & top champions as closer to average-fit Joe so they can feel they are up there. With Gender equality becoming mainstream, women will be allowed to enjoy beating-down males...for this to happen we will need more weight classes, it will start with a female champion holding the WBA regular belt in a new division & picks up from there. This can happen inside the 2020s, it will help boxing take-hold of the 50% female population, who are usually turned off from sports

The cruiserweight division is stacked with talent, remember there are more talented big men that walk around cruiserweight limits than the plodders at heavyweight, back in the day the heavyweight division was practically the cruiserweight division in terms of general size of the fighters. It garners a lot of attention in Europe, and as others have said, a testing ground for fighters to move up.

Cruiser ended up being a very deep division, this could be due to the Super-sized Heavyweights creating a bottle-neck effect. In 2020 its safe to say that modern Cruiser of today is more competitive than Light Heavyweight or Bantamweight

If anything i would suggest an extra class between cruiser and heavyweight. People at least here in northwest europe are getting longer and heavier as time goes on. In other martial arts like judo and wrestling you have weightclasses between 200lbs and heavyweight (granted in those sports power and weight is much more important)

On the other hand there would more segeration which would not be good, also new ibc/ibf/ibo wba etc champions and what not. They should get rid of all these organisations anyway, and then intoduce the new weightclass.

Also people should appreciate also classes like CW more, i mean those guys are usually better athletic build as opposed to being just tall and heavy. If you are just very big and tall like Valuev you can get very far in heavyweight without being a good boxer.

For some reason it has been the step-child of boxing.

Why don't we scrap all divisions where the people at the top are not currently household names?

THis I agree with. It really shouldn't be the case. These are big guys, just the right size for power and skill/speed. It should always be a banging division. I honestly think it's been short of characters, a bit like tossing a coin and having it land 'heads' 20 times in a row. There haven't been any larger than life personalities that have had crossover appeal - and if they have had somewhat of a personality they've gone up to HW. I think divisions need to get back to fighters choosing to stay put, dominate, have rivalries - rather than protect the '0' and dot around at multiple weights.

    Weird question.

Near HW power with the speed, movement and punch output similar to LW. What's not to like?

Cruiser is the best division. It is a division full on hard hitters that have true athletic abilities compared to the heavyweights and are fighters who have great levels of skills for big men. I never understood how there is such a huge drop off in both speed and skill once you move up to heavyweight.
