Why did the doctor not even look at the cut after round 1? It was a HUGE gash, and you could immediately tell that it would affect the outcome of the fight. Was there pressure to let it go past 4 rounds to ensure that Khan would at least win a TD?

Of course. The cut was awful. The doctor just didn't want to stop it in the fourth because it would be a no contest and he would get booed the **** out.

I can't beleive the doc allowed the fight to continue when he looked at the cut in the fourth.

For 3 rounds before that it was obvious Barrera's vision was impaired.

Should have been a NC.. but Marco wasn't gonna quit.. and it became obvious they wanted to keep the card exciting by letting it go to some kind of decision instead of a NC.. thus not stopping it in the 4th and waiting until the 5th.

it should have been stopped in the 1st, instead, they let it go to 5 rounds, marco blasts him with a hook and then they stop it?!!! **** them. dont get me wrong, marco was getting beat but lets be fair. they needed that win on their resume sooo bad that they let the fight go on at marcos expense. til khan got hurt.
completely disrespectful to a great fighter to try to boost a good fighter(not great)'s resume.

i won over 500$ on that bout, but it should have been a no contest.

had the fight been in mexico, it wouldve been stopped in the first. because it was in the uk, they did everything possible to make 4 rds complete.

ah well, i got paid, so **** yall. haha

this is a case of americans applying american rules to a fight taking place outside of america.

in uk fights if you get cut accidentally , and the ref stops the fight

    you lose.

we do not go to the scorecards or score fights no descions.
we score the fights as a stoppage loss.

this applies to all our own fighters.

ricky hatton was cut a lot in his early fights, had to fight through it or he would have gone down as a loser.

Marco did look like he lost a step and he was taking some punishment, but he landed that left hook twice and both times imho Khan was hurt. I do think Marco would have gotten him at some point. That cut was HORRIBLE, they should have either stopped the fight right away or let MAB go out on his shield, absolutely no excuse to wait til the fifth round and then stop it.

Oh come on...think about this now.

If the fight is stopped on an NC, that's the second in a row for Barrera. NCs do nothing for him whatsoever in the division, considering the abuse most fighters get for refusing to carry on due to a cut (like Rahman vs Toney II) it could arguably even have hurt his current standing. Beating Khan would give him a boost. So even if they'd asked him after the first round, I bet he would've wanted to continue.

They definitely did ask him when they checked it next around the 3rd. He wanted to carry on, no doubts there. It looked like he was being asked in his corner between the 4th and 5th too, again he carried on. He wasn't being forced to continue at gunpoint!

Retroactively, now he's lost, now it's easy to say that it should've been all over.
But Barrera wanted to take that risk to get the big reward.

It didn't come off. End of story.

The fight went to the scorecards, in the UK, the only question is if it should have went earlier.
