Should the Governing bodies sanction World title fights if there were weight clauses

A World title fight is a 12 round match at the specific weight of the division, and the weigh ins are 24 hours ahead of the match due to health and safety of the fighters.

Therefore if parties agree a catch weight outside the weight of the division should it be an official defence. Cotto & now Clottey fighting at a contractual weight below 147 is not a welter weight defence.

It's happened hundreds of times before. As long as it's within the weight, it's a title defense, catchweight or not.

That said, I'm not convinced the fight will be at a catchweight. Arum and Roach are on the record of saying no catchweight. Koncz said there will be a catchweight, but I don't trust that assclown. He talks out of his anus 2/3 of the time.

WTF? Did you start following boxing around November or something?

Google catchweight and you will see there have been hundreds of matches, including famous ones with ATGs doing this for more than a 100 years. It is standard practice especially if the two opponents are not naturally the same size.

The fact it always happens does not mean that it is right.

The Lalonde v Leonard - WBC (2 for the price of 1) LHW & SMW is the most rediculous example of the practise

There is NOTHING wrong with it. Not all fighters are the same size. You have to accommodate this especially if you want a fighter to move up and challenge for other belts. Henry Armstrong would have not won as many belts if it was not for it.

If Clottey is SO big that he cannot make the legal range of 141-147 then he should not fight at WW.
Weight class is a RANGE and NOT a specific weight. 147 is the LIMIT not the weight class itself. Why do people keep ignoring this important fact?

The reality is that dehydration is such a standard practice that majority of fights happen at the absolute limit of each weight classes. Fighters who walk around at 158+, train at 153, dehydrate at 147 in order to maximize their strength advantage.

You know why no one attempted an absolute rule on that? Because a lot of major fights will never happen.
