They won't fold as long as people pay the sanctioning fees. They must be minimal though if some of these scrubs are paying lol
What compels them to close? It's not like they have belt factories with shifts of workers expecting paychecks. Their fixed expenses are a PO Box and a website. If someone wants to do an IBO fight they spring into action, collect their sanctioning fees, then go back to sleep.
They should all fold and then sanction one world title per division. No super, interim, wannabe etc. No additional weight classes. Five judges with instant replay for cuts and fouls. This would save boxing and make it relevant again.
I like IBO. It's been with us for decades, it has its own legacy. And all the champions carried it with pride. It should stay.
I wouldn't be surprised. Let's be honest, unlike with other 4 belts that definitely raise fighters profile and value in the eyes of fans, promoters and broadcasters - in case of IBO, the big names were doing them a favor, promoting them by defending that belt. I never quite understood why - but hey, if You don't have to pay anything, there's no mandatories... it's pretty harmless and it's always another belt to show around.
Yes, they are no different than the WBU (which is thankfully also gone) I think James Toney had the WBU LHW title
