A little glib, but you are correct that the bum-of-the-month tour of Joe Louis included imposing fighters such as Abe Simon and Buddy Baer and were hardly the pushovers that some modern critics would have you believe.

Buddy Baer was a monster, and had almost as many first round knockouts as Dempsey. I agree that he would have been a dangerous proposition for anyone, especially those who were defending a title on a near monthly basis. Simon was limited though.

I would challenge you to expose any hidden jewels in either Klitschko's resume? :hey
I know what your saying, but there are no perennial losers or cusp fighters that despite their losing record, are tough grueling workhorses usually forcing their foe to a long tough fight.
Their rise to the top is such a fine tuned masterpiece its silly. The timing at which some of those "bigger named" opponents were added to their win column was perfection with a few failures along the way. Were talking about two fighters that are often being discussed alongside the biggest names in heavyweight boxing, yet their track record in anything that doesnt resemble a slow paced boxing match is subpar.

Buddy Baer had a career record of 52-7 with 46 knockouts. I remember doing a check on the highest ko percentages among heavyweights for each decade, and Buddy actually was the top man for his era, ahead of Louis and brother Max, each of whom of course met far more top fighters. Still, Buddy had ko's of Galento, Simon, Mann, Doyle among others. Certainly a dangerous opponent for anyone.

Vitali is too old and simply is not good enough a fighter to go on tour. Wlad is much younger and better than his brother, so I could see him going through the heavyweight field in a matter of a year if he fought 5 or 6 times.

The brothers have fought all of the men who were put in front of them which is about all a fighter can do...just like Larry Holmes was maligned for not being Ali..anyone after tyson/holy/lewis will be said to be no good for not exciting...when someone beats the Klitschko's then there will be something to talk about...but dont talk bad about these two borthers who are beating the only opponents that are lined up as mandatories or those who are viewed as top contenders or threats to the title

I'm not sure if you can have a bum of the month tour these days. The alphabet bandits will strip you if you don't make their mandatories.
