Should The Ring Mag Vacate the Titles held by their Inactive(1 yr) Champions?

To be honest, I hadn't even realized that is the case with Izzy, until you guys said it in this thread. Not sure how to feel about it, since Izzy is recovering from injuries? Also, I haven't bought an issue in the last 2 months or so, to know if they have talked about this situation or if they have plans of any sort. I do know they pretty much said, as if written on stone, that they would NEVER strip a champion, only ask him to relinquish the belt if he's deemed to be "holding it hostage".

Is that the case with Izzy, or is his circumstances different?

 

I dont care it is just a magazine. The ring title would just be as legitimate as an ESB title.

 

Well, they would never strip him regardless. I agree with what you say about Izzy's situation, but am not sure about what the Ring may be saying/doing regarding it.

All they said, was they ask a champ to "do the right thing" if there is a problem, and it reported that no fighter has not honored thier request, when contacted.

 

Yes, it could be. But could be is different from reality. Yes, this board is loaded with hardcore fans who know as much if not more than the people who make up the Ring rankings. But what the Ring has is an organized system. ESB doesn't. If there ever was a situation where someone put together some of the smart people on ESB and made official guidelines on how this should be done, i'm sure as time passes on, it might even get some notoriety on HBO, etc. But until then, we are just individual fans while The Ring is an organized system who do their homework.

 

That's the ***** right there. Last issue I had, there were like 10 divisions with VACANT as champ. Politics in boxing make it a ***** for the RING's #1 and #2 to actually get in the ring together, as it is almost ALWAYS a case of unification, as 1 and 2 would likely both be holding a strap.:!:

It does not take much organizational skills to come up with a list of fighters and rank them. The real hard work is all the other stuff that proper sanctioning bodies perform.

 

Ranking the top 5 is easy. Properly ranking 6-10 requires a bit more homework. You have to see who is an up and comer and who need to move out. You have to be aware of little known prospects as they rise through the ranks.

 

The mandate of a proper sanctioning body embodies more than just ranking. A magazine can not just cherry pick one aspect of that and hope to have the same legitimacy in crowning champions. I am not disputing that they have the best ranking system especially their P4P list but your not a proper world champ until you win one of the major 4 belts.

 

Isint he recovering from eye surgery? The WBC stripped him of his title but thats hardly fair since its not really his fault.

 

I think if your injured it should be fine(fight injuries only) but if you're not fighting/defending the belt just because then yes i think you should be stripped. Just like everyone on here says, you are practically holding the belt hostage.
