Should the Standing 8 Count Return?

I personally think a fighter should take a knee if they are close to being stopped.. I know we hardly ever see it and ones that do get bashed by fans, but the fighter needs to do what's best for them. I think it leaves too much power in the hands of the ref (thinking crooked) when the fighter can take a knee..
