Should the weight divisions be adjusted upwards?

We keep on about heavies getting bigger, but this principal follows in all divisions. In Briton we struggle to find Fly weights as a result.

Therefore I suggest the following changes:

Straw weight to move to 112, Light Fly to become Light Straw, and the previous Straw weight to be called mimimum weight.

Therefore as a result all divisions would move up twice.

    Light would be 147
    Welter 160
    Middle 175
    Cruiser at 190
The new Light Heavy division 214
    Thereafter heavy

This would recognise people have got bigger in every division

I see what youre getting at but it would be a lot easier to add a new division such as having a heavyweight and super heavyweight division. Although i do not believe this should happen.

No, bigger does not mean better. A quick, fit heavy at 215 has a chance against any other HW. I believe they should just have less weight divisions, theres 3 pounds in between some, thats absurd and makes for too many "champions".

I wouldnt mind combining MW and SMW mainly because MW is such a **** poor division and the super middleweight division doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

The only thing you're doing is getting rid of the minimumweight division, and moving up the HW minimum by 15 lbs. It's not like current guys who fight at WW would fight at WW under your system. They would just fight at LW. What they need to do is get rid a lot of those Jr. and Super divisions.

If we got rid of Super Middleweight, Middleweight and Light Heavy would both be packed with talent.

Indeed. The division has sort of become a safe haven for fighters who are either too big for MW or too small for LHW.

Imagine guys like Kessler,Bika and Andrade competing at LHW with Bute, Froch and Taylor back at 160. Suddenly things dont look so bleak.

There is more talent in the minimum weight then there is at HW by far. How bout we get rid of the cows at HW once and for all. I believe there is always open spots in sumo wrestling MMA, and WWE.

some divisions are just stupid. Theres 7 pounds from super middle to Lightheavy and then 25 pounds from LightHeavy to Cruiser

If we had less weight divisions than we would get better match-ups more often, too many fighters avoid each other cause of 5lbs etc. IMO it would be good for boxing.

The gap between LH and Cruiser should close within 10 pounds then adjust the other divisions accordingly. I also think that any Heavyweights over 250 pounds should be Super heavyweights.

i think it's pretty clear that the main issue is not the physical evolution of the species...the issue is weighing up to 36 hours before a fight and rehydrating, blowing up and what not by fight time. carmen basilio, jake lamotta, gene fullmer, tony demarco, tony zale, rocky graziano...these guys were all middleweights in their careers--and notably "smakller" than felix sturm, bernard hopkins, kelly pavlik and other guys who fight at middleweight weighing about 175 pounds by fight time. i know the early weigh in is supposed to be a safety measure to protect the fighters, but, unfortunately, adults are no different than misbehaving, naive children and will push it and cheat and take unreasonable risks no matter what safeguards exist. guys will be sweating down and dehydrating the liquid barrier between the brain and skull, risking serious injury, no matter what safeguards exist.
