I have to agree, I thought it was a strange rule when I heard them reading it before hand... But when you hear it, you never think something is going to happen that will make this rule come into play. All you're thinking is: "**** them rules. Hurry up and read that **** so we can go out here and get this guy" Then when the **** happens, everyone is like "What the ****?!?" I remember thinking that it would be a no-contest, until my brother reminded me that thery only needed 3 complete rounds. It's really too bad, because unlike most posters, I actually like Cintron as a person. He just has so much **** going on when he fights.
So the bell can ring for the 4th in a fight, fighter gets up off his stool, slips and injures himself we goto the cards? Stupid rule. It should be a NC with a rematch.
Common sense should prevail but this is boxing and rules are rules. If there was an issue about the 3 round completed it should have been brought up at the time of the rules meeting. Rematch is the only answer.
I know. Every fighter has that same reaction when the rules are being read to them... but boxers themselves should also take more responsibility and consider these things and not throw early rounds away like some fighters tend to do. That doesn't have all that much to do with the topic at hand, but it's something I never understood about pro's who just throw the early rounds way.. because those early missed opportunities could always come back and bite you on the ass later on the scorecards.
Like i said in an earlier post: If Cintron truly wanted to continue like he claimed he wanted to do then he should have at the very least sat up to show the doctors he was some what alright!!!! When he laid on the floor in a fetal position for 3 minutes then he was telling the doctors he wasn't O.K to continue!!! Something is psychologically wrong with Cintron!! Who the hell falls through a rope without trying to hold onto the rope or even put his hands in front of them to brace a fall!:-(
It should be a no contest. And i'll like to see a rematch but i rather see Williams vs Martinez rematch first.
Because at first, I was really thinking from the standpoint of "Who the hell is going to take the time and watch these two fight again? Because not only was the ending a disaster, but neither fighter looked very good during the fight, almost as if it should have never happened in the first place." After really thinking about it, I believe Paul is genuinely hurt by the crowd reaction to the way he fought, that he would pick this fight up where he left off in the 4th Round before the incident. He really wants a chance to prove that he can break Kermit down and stop him. It's all he talked about when we were in the Charlotte Airport during the layover.
The fight was in cale, so you got by cali rules. Definantly a gay way to end the fight, but it is what it is. My opinion would be that cintron won or it was a draw & they should rematch. But snce they are hyping williams, there won't be one.
