Should there be 2 weigh ins - 24 hours & then on the day

Say for argument sake for a middle weight title you had to weight 160lb 24 hours in advance as per now, but had to weigh in again on the day of the fight within a certain % of 160lb say 170-172lb. This would prevent starving and binging result in health risks and huge weight differences in the ring

I'd support that for sure. It's an excellent idea.

i thought sometimes they already did this, i thought some weight limits were introduced on the day (by promotors) after the Gamache v Gatti fight,

IBF make you weigh in and the morning of the fight you get weighed in again and you can't be more than 10pounds over the fight weight. For safety I think that makes sense.

These guys who go north of 10 pounds to numbers like 15 and 20 are just insane. Mayorga and Toney have cut about 20 pounds before. Its frightening.

    10lbs is fine IMO.

Rios might be fine come fight night but long term this cant be good for any fighter or the sport in general.

Edit: rather than 10lbs I'd favour a system based on %of bodyweight. Big difference between 10lbs for a flyweight compared to a cruiser.

20lbs isn't that irregular nowadays. Chavez Jr being one example. Canelo comes in a stone over the weight. Manny has put on 17lbs in the past when making the lighter weights.

Chitalada used to cut 17lbs during same day weigh in's :-(

It should correlate with the weight division imo. 10 lbs is a lot more to a bantamweight than a light heavyweight.

Like Dr No says, a percentage of bodyweight makes much more sense than a flat 10 lbs across the board. Its a good system in principle and I'd like to see it more widespread.

Not really because both fighters will be cutting.

So what? It would be both fighters dangerously cutting weight, which is the whole purpose of this proposal.

the day before weigh ins can be fairly dangerous, not just to the fighter draining himself, but to his opponent. Facing an opponent who is 15 pounds heavier than you on fight night is unfair, and could definitely lead to more Gatti-Gamache type occurences or worse. An extra weigh in on the day is a good idea imo.

Deffo a good idea...I'm sure the IBF do it? Think that's why Gamboa had to vacate his belt :think

Then why bother with the second weigh-in at all if not primarily for safety reasons?
