Should there be a new weight between Light Heavy and Cruiser?

If I were drawing it up from scratch, we'd have divisions at 175, 190, 210, and then heavyweight. It's crazy to me that there's only two classes in modern boxing for all the fighters over 175 pounds.

Oh please. Everyone who boxes in the 175-pound division weighs nearly 200 pounds when the bell rings.

Usyk would already be a two-division champ (in your new divisions - 190, 210) moving up to his third division. Wilder would be a two-division champ (210 and heavyweight).

So, really, what's the point in having them if the same guys just roll through them picking up belts?

All these divisions aren't necessary. They really aren't. They never have been necessary. They never were necessary. It has nothing to do with safety. It's just a money grab by the orgs. Seriously.

There are too many divisions existing in this kind of sport today already. No need to add more divisions. If you can't make 175 anymore then go up to Cruiserweight Division or Heavyweight Division. That's it.

And who of the top LHWs would need it? Ok, I remember Kovalev expressing such wish in the past, but it seems that with the right approach (discipline + proper nutrition) he is quite able to stay at the LHW. Maybe Gvozdyk would need it in the future, but he's not too big, actually, just tall.

Maybe some of the CWs (Maxim Vlasov, for example) would be happy, though.

Tony Bellew is a good example of a guy who was in between. Cutting to 175 he was about 190 and skinny. At 205-210 he was flabby. His ideal division would probably have been about 190, entering the ring at about 200.

We actually already had a name for it, Dannyweight (after Danny Green)

Seriously though, Light Cruiserweight or Junior Cruiserweight seem the obvious choices for such a weightclass.

[QUOTE="Dubblechin, post: 19770968, member: 107480"Adding FOUR NEW divisions below 122 pounds was nonsense.

How many grown men are there who weigh less than 118 pounds and punch each other in the head for a living? Even the guys who fight "at bantamweight" weigh 130 pounds or more when the bell rings.

    ^^

    minimumweight 7 stone 7lbs
    (just 3 pounds more and..)
    light flyweight 7 stone 10lbs
    flyweight 8 stone
    ( just 3lbs more and...)
    super flyweight 8 stone 3lbs
    (just 3lbs more and..)
    bantamweight 8 stone 6lbs
    (just 4lbs more and..)
    super bantamweight 8 stone 10lbs
    featherweight 9 stone
    ( just 4lbs more and..)
    super featherweight 9 stone 4lbs
    lightweight 9 stone 9lbs

it's beyond stupid how this even happened^. So unnecessary to have this many weight divisions. And makes a mockery of the term 'world champion', or even multi weight world champion. There's only 200 fighters in the world that are Minimumweights lol. They should scrap both Minimumweight and Light Flyweight, and make Flyweight the lowest.

Yet there's almost a 2 stone difference between Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight, unbelievable!

If there had been a new weight division with a set of 4 world titles every 4lbs between Light Heavy and Cruiser ( like there stupidly is in the tiny weightclasses)
Tomasz Adamek would have probably have been a 7 weight world champion!
