Should there be a new weight class in between 175 and 200?

As everyone sensible says: there are too many already. The super-heavy idea about Valuev fighting guys his own size is really silly. He can't beat all the guys smaller than him, so why does he need to be put in a different class?
A super-heavy class would have next to no talent in it and would be utterly boring.

160-175-200-200+ could be just lovely, not 160-161-162-163....

im ok with the 17 or 18 divisions so long as there is one champ per division

Mendoza.. you 'titled' the ball, and just to keep it rolling I suggest a few less weight classes also... or hope for, and a limit of 3 governing bodies. Idealistically.. WBA, WBC and a definate non-European/American body.. although both WBA and WBC are messy at the moment.

The days of old.. being WBC and WBA, introducing a single Asian Pacific body.. or just allowing those 2 bodies to be governed accordingly.

When Don WBC King drops dead, a slight opening might be available, for the WBC to control itself again.

Some of my favourite eras were when you only had the WBC and WBA title..And all those silly lighter weights werent around (though in actual fact, some of those divisions have produced some of my most favourite fighters and fights over the years).

I can see the issue with someone monopolizing just one title and some very, very good fighters never getting a shot..which was the case so many times.
But with the two title competing...you could often have to champs establish themselves and thus promote the super fight.

Sort of like the Duran-Dejesus rubber had a little more meaning to it because Esteban had the other piece of the title for a little while and established himself again as the no2 in the division, not just another contender.

I think those days could happen again...we aint going to have just one title and I think the divisions will stay the way the are..maybe with the odd tweaking of the limit.
But having only two champs to one division would be my ideal situation...loved to see those days back.

I don't thin another class is needed but as mentioned before I think they should up the light heavy limit to 13 st which sill gives 18lbs jump to cruiser. I also firmly believe that there should be a heavyweight limit set at 18 st. Valuev has no place in the ring anyway and should have made a career rebounding and dunking and anyone else coming in over 18st is either on roids or out of shape for a boxing contest

The LAST thing Boxing needs is more weight classes. It needs less actually.

There are too many divisions as it is. I think moving it up 200 was a bad idea. 190 was good and then they should keep heavyweight how it was, and make a superheavyweight for guys like the Klitchkos.

if we got rid of some weight divisions it would be just as unfair.

    lets take 147,154,160
154 people say is a ******* division, but why should a guy like terry Norris fight Hagler or hopkins? he is too small period. it's not like hagler isnt gonna come in at light heavy or hopkins a mild cruiser. while norris doesnt hydrate pass 165.

proffesionally at the top notch those 6 pounds can cost you. becuase it's the rehydration that is the major size factor.

Not only should there NOT be any new weight classes, they should get rid of some too.
Go back to the classic eight weight classes. If your weight class has "junior or a super" in the title, it should be abolished.

I always hated the idea of Super Heavyweights, but I definitely agree that Cruiserweight should be 190. I mean: 154, 160, 168, 175............. 200? It just doesn't make any sense. I lthink the eight traditional divisions are the way to go, considering most of the best fighters are moving up and down a superfluous class or two to fight the best competition around anyway. Still wouldn't help too much if we have 4 belts in each class, but the Ring belt works well enough.

It's good that there are in-between weight classes like Light-Middle and Super-Middle as it means that naturally smaller guys can fight in those weight classes instead of the one above them, or they can move up a weight comfortably if they are feeling too drained.

Losing and gaining a full stone between weight classes is very difficult and potentially damaging in the long term, which is probably why the newer weight classes were introduced.

The leap to Cruiser is too big. It's also silly how Light-heavy is two weights below heavy.

The jump from 175 to 200 is huge.

It is equivalent to a jump of 3 normal weightclasses.

For the boxer's sake, yes, add another weightclass or two, we need to make sure fighters are of equal size.

For the fans' sake...no, the less weightclasses there are, the more talent per weightclass, and the better the fights will be. :good

Good point, but not 17 or 18, no one will make the weight, Nate Campbell will never get to fight, actually might not be such a bad thing.
I always thought it was a big jump but no, too many champs at each weight as it is.
