Should there be an age limit set for what age a fighter can fight until?

Exactly. With responsible matchmaking I don't see why guys over 40 and even 50 shouldn't be sanctioned, pending their ability to pass a physical, and provided the opponent isn't some top-15-in-the-world-ranked prime monster less than half their age.

Yes, I've floated around the idea for years about a boxing senior tour. A couple of groundrules. Everyone is on VADA 6 months before they fight, nobody under 40 and not more than 10 years age difference. think of the matchups you could make.

No. Why would there be any? If a boxer is approved by the medical commission, it's his right to fight.
Fans should just "vote" with their money — do not watch crappy fights, don't pay for them.

Everyone is an individual case, different fighters have taken different levels of punishment and have differing levels of punch resistance and defensive skills.

A 39 year old Lucas Browne shouldnt be given a licence, but Bhop was elite at aged 49.

Also taking away a professional licence doesnt stop these guys carrying on fighting. Like Danny Williams who has been shot for 10 years, but is still fighting in unlicenced and "Bareknuckle" events.

If an individual wants to continue fighting well past it being medically wise to, then they can just go unlicenced. All taking away a pro licence does, is stop them being associated with professional boxing.

It should be done on a case by case basis, as it is today

The only fighters that haven`t taken that much damage so far is Loma and Crawford, Loma hasn`t had many fights but Crawford is thinking of retiring soon and he hasn`t taken much flak from punches, even Mayweather took a lot of shots from Cotto and got his face messed up. McCallum is one of the few fighters that didn`t take much punishment and went on for a long time and Hopkins but he got slapped around by a heavy hitter like Kovalev too.

I don`t even know if he`s in the Top 10 but will he be next year or the year afte that and on and on, he`s just going to keep getting older and slower, when should he retire then? He`s taken more punches than other guys in the top ten because he`s been fighting for so long and he`s been knocked out viciously which can leave a scar on the brain, if he suffers another knockout he could be permantly effected.

Maybe, the point is if you stop people fighting at a certain age there will be les fighters taking more and more shots and yes you will still have younger fighters taking a lot of shots but if Rios is forced to retire at a certain point he`ll also be saved from further punishment.

Their reflexes slow down and they are more suceptible to getting hit, you can`t fight forever.

How is it relevant to their age? A boxer of any age risks to get brain injuries.

My point is the more shots you take the more damage you are likely to suffer on the brain, scars are often left on the brain after punches have been landedd, they found scars on Ali`s brain after the Shavers fight, Ali was far too slow to fight against hard punching heavyweights by that stage, Holmes was destroyed by Tyson at the age of 38 because he had slowed down so much and punch resistance can go after a time, Leonard`s punch resistance completwely disappeared vs Camacho at 40, Hearns was a far harder puncher than Hector yet he couldn`t stop Ray over two fights despite decking him when he 29 at the higher weight.

Well, one can argue that they don't hit as hard as young athletic boxers.
One way or the other, if an older boxer wants to trade his health for money (or maybe for fun, maybe his life is just empty/boring without boxing) let him do it!
