Should there be world titles at Minimumweight when there's only 184 current boxers?

    It's so stupid
4 world titles for a weight class of 184 boxers!!

Vast majority of countries don't even have a single boxer in this weight class.

The whole continent of Europe doesn't have a single one!

Light flyweight is the same. Only 321 boxers. And only 1 is from Europe

You're hardly a 'world champion' in these weight classes. You're just very lucky you're in a weight class with so few boxers where the vast majority of the world doesn't have boxers this small.

They should all have to move up a few measly pounds to Flyweight. Flyweight should be the lowest weight.

Hmm. Maybe I should give this a go.

Just got to lose 50% of my body weight but it'll be worth it when Im fighting Knockout CP Freshmart in front of a packed out 02.

17 weight classes... it is what it is.

It doesnt mean as much to dominate 105 than it does to dominate HW. But if the fights are better quality and the matchups get made, who cares.

Haha. Literally any boxer who happens to be at minimumweight has at the very least a 1 in 46 chance of becoming a world champion lol

Any person that small should think of starting boxing!

Dude, thats not how statistics work.

If I get in the ring with Canelo, that doesnt mean I have a 1 in 2 chance of winning because theres only 2 of us.

You're assuming - wrongly - that talent is evenly distributed across the weight classes and that heavyweight containing more athletes to the tune of over a thousand means that there is stiffer competition in determining 'the best'. Not so. 105lb isn't a terrific division, and it is silly to have world titles with disproportionately large representation in a small handful of countries and disproportionately small in many others, but the 184th best strawweight is probably a good deal better p4p than the #814 heavyweight.

No? I would Guess the UFC doesn't even have 100 fighters signed to their fly weight division and that's going strong. I'm all for reduceing the number of weight classes but this is a strange way to go about it.

The cool thing about those small divisions is that you might be seeing the best 106lbs athlete in the world in there.

The potential best WW in the world is probably playing soccer, the best HW is playing basketball or football, etc but at that size you don't have too many other choices besides boxing.

Also they get paid jack **** so you might as well give them a belt.

Obviously we should abolish 105 and 108 divisions. They can eat a bit more, dehydrate a bit less, and compete among flyweights.

    Yes I think so
It still likely determines who the top fighters are in that division
Consider in women's boxing at MW, there are only 28 boxers but I have seen people talking about the top 2 facing each other

I mean how many healthy grown men in the whole world can ever weigh in at 108 lbs?

A seriously large amount. The average person in Japan is 5'7 and the average man in Mexico is 5'6. Meaning that a 5'4 man in Japan and a 5'3 man in Mexico is as common as a 5'6 man in the United States.

108 pound boxers actually weigh around 120 pounds, they just do serious weight cutting. I have a 5'6 friend who is healthy and weighs 120 pounds. Of course, he'd probably weigh 135 pounds in boxing shape, but there are tons of scaled down versions of him in Mexico and Japan who only weigh 120 in boxing shape.

How many healthy grown men in the world can weigh in at 240lbs?
Are we making an argument to put a weight cap on the heavyweight division because it doesn't represent all nations?

Sorry Tyson, you're good an' all, but you don't accurately represent the human experience
