Taylor-Chaves hell yes Taylor was unable to answer the questions he was out. If Steeler asked him to walk to him like judges do today he was going to fall. And Chaves was maybe going to kill Taylor in the 6 seconds that were left. Castillo-Corrales I agree with you Castillo was in serious danger there. I'm not sure the timing to stop the Cotto fight was good. He should either do it earlier either give Cotto the possibility to survive.
dont really remember cotto-corley but no all all rest...especially taylor.... his first knockdown ever up to that point, regardless of punishment, both guys were nailing each other...and he was up by 3 or 4 count....good enough for me...huge fight, undefeated vs undefeated and unification
The Taylor stoppage was harsh, yes he got beaten bad but he would of won the fight, 5 SECONDS LEFT!!!! he was standing and the bell was about to go, pure bull****!!! His career never would of been good after that beating but he would of beaten a ATG
1 - Taylor-Chavez I - I wanted Taylor to win badly and I had the exact same feelings for Steele at first. But after I discussed it with a few fellow ESBers, I realised that Steele had to stop it. I know that Taylor deserved to get the belt after that incredible performance, but he didn't answer to Steele's question mate. Sad but true. Actually, Lou Duva might as well be the one to blame, cause at the moment Steele asked Taylor if he was ok, Taylor was looking at his trainer. Good stoppage. 2 - Tyson-Rudduck I - Tough call. Maybe the ref could have let it go on for a few seconds to make sure. 3 - Lewis-McCall I - I'm a huge Lewis fan. But Lennox was leaning against the ref in order to stay on his feet. Good stoppage. 4 - Pacquiao-Cotto - Actually, the ref could have stopped the fight before it reached the 12th round. Good stoppage. 5 - Cotto-Corley - No arguing here. 6 - Castillo-Corrales I - I don't get how anyone could have doubts on this one. Castillo was badly hurt and the ref probably saved him from getting severe damage. 7 - Hatton-Malignaggi - I agree. If I was the ref, I would give Paulie the chance to finish it on his feet. I didn't like that stoppage.
I disagree on Taylor-Chavez. While initially, it seemed obsurd, it is not the ref's job to factor in the clock when assessing whether or not a fighter can continue. Very odd, no doubt, but the ref should only concern himself with the fighter's safety, not with giving him a couple more seconds to finish. The stoppage would have made sense in the middle of a round, so, if Steele simply does his job, he stops it when he stops it, regardless of time left on the clock. And that's what Steele did, his job.
The thing with the Hatton fight was that Malignaggi's corner pulled the plug the ref stopped it because his corner pulled him out.
:huhI thought Paulie's corner threw in the towel? After time on here and thinking about it, Taylor-Chavez could've continued but it's good it didn't. I mean he's already in bad shape continuing the Taylor-Chavez fight would've been worse for him. From the 10th round and on Chavez was picking up and Taylor was wearing down. I saw glimpses of this in Abraham-Dirrell were in the 10 AA (JCC) was seeming to get stronger and Dirrell (Taylor) was seeming to not being able to keep AA off him for long. Tyson-Ruddock 1 was a tough call and I can't blame Steele for stoppng it. I dont remember Cotto-Corley but the rest of the fights were right to stop.
It is an automatic, cut and dry, rule in boxing that a ref stop a fight anytime a fighter is knocked down, gets up, and falls back down. Nady did his job perfectly.
I believe Trevor Berbick got up and fell more than once in his fight with Tyson before the ref stopped it? :think
