Name some fighters you think should move up in weight. When and why?

I'll start... and yes I got the idea from bn24's home page....

    Andre Ward - 168 to 175
    When: ASAP
Why: He's already proved he's the best at 168. Move up, take a tune up first though.

    Guillermo Rigondeaux - 122 to 126
When: After defeating LSC, Scott Quigg, and Carl Frampton
Why: It's almost unanimous he's the best at super feather. Unify to back it up on paper and then move up to a division you might be too small for.

    Danny Garica - 140 to 147
    When: Last year!!!
Why: Because there was nothing left to prove after defeating Matthysse, he had momentum and should've moved up with it. Instead he waited and now he's got Peterson, Postol, and a very deserving Herrera rematch.

    Chris Algieri - 140 to 147
    When: 2015
Why: It might benefit his power a little more, plus I heard rumors of him being drained or struggling to make weight? Either way, he's big for JR welter, so bulk up, son.

    Gennady Golovkin - 160 to 168 :!:
When: After unifying or late 2016 (whichever comes first)
Why: I'll shoot a quick list...
    • He's 33, time is running out
    • He's unanimously #1 at middleweight
    • That will be his only competition IMO

    Canelo Alvarez - 154 to 160
When: Depends... if he can make 154, stay. He's only 24/25, plenty of time.
Why: Because 155 is not a division!

I've no problems with fighters staying and dominating their own divisions.

It depends for me, if it "dries" up then I'd prefer they move up. If it's feasible, nothing forced.

Fighters should only move up in weight when it's the healthiest and right time to do so. Moving up in weight for money/better options usually ends up ugly.

Suguru Muranaka. He missed the Flyweight limit by more than 2lbs recently and was stripped of his Japanese title as a result. He's said he's going to try and get back down but I'd like to see him just move up, lots of good fights on the Japanese domestic scene for him at 115.

I need to get familiar with the lower weight classes. From what I have seen, I am missing a lot.

Canelo and Garcia have to since they can't make their previous weights anymore, Ward, GGG and Algieri could, but don't have to, Rigo is too small for 126

I agree with you but are you not tempted to see GGG move up and meet a certain Carl Froch?

If he moves up, faces Froch in 2015, then goes back down to 160, I'd be cool with that. Since Froch is near retirement.

I love seeing a fighter dominate his division; Hopkins, Hagler, Monzon style.

With a single unified champion everyone knows who the man is. It's a good remedy to the alphabet belt shambles.

If you pick a weight I can either do a little over-view or see if I can find one for you. Happy to "introduce" you to any of them :)
