Should this have been a DQ?

shimada IS STANDING. It's pretty clear in OP's video. But it's even clearer in the replay I posted, in case you had any doubt.

If you refuse to see it, then up to you.

Did the referee SAY stop? NO. Then, THAT'S 100% LEGIT.

    Exactly.

In order to take a knee, you need actually to put the knee on the ground. And shimada did not.

EDIT: actually it can be any part of your body, but your feet. It does not have to be the knee.

No DQ, if you want to use the ropes to keep you up, expect to get hit until the ropes can't keep you up. Ref should have called it a knockdown though.

No, but referee mess up. Should be 5 minutes and maybe technical decision. Valero shot fair but naughty. Bend rule not break. Or, breaks the idea of the rule but technically fair

Even though Valero was a murdering scumbag and the lowest of the low, he only cracked his downed opponent with one shot whereas Roid cracked a downed Monty Griffin with two full power roid bombs. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions there.

Probably 50/50 depending on the Referee doing the job on the day...Not a good look though but compared to the Mayweather Cheap Shot not that much in it.!!!
